The Maxon AD-999 Guitar Effects Pedals is the most ambitious and practical analog delay pedal to come along in a very long time. A few years back the hopes of analog lovers the world over were dashed when Panasonic closed their BBD production line for good. Rather than giving in to the digital wave, Maxon took the opposite approach and had BBDs manufactured exclusively for them!

Each AD999 comes loaded with eight Maxon MN3107D BBDs for a total of 900ms of pure, rich, organic analog delay. Standard Delay Time, Delay Level, and Feedback controls combine with wet/dry outputs for a variety of sounds and signal routing options. Switching is handled by a 4PDT mechanical switch for transparent, noise-free operation in bypass and the unit runs off 9V DC for easier integration into players' pedalboards. I was using this pedal side-by-side with a Boss DD-3, and I noticed something interesting. The boss pedal had way more features, a better construction, and was just more versatile. But, this pedal had infinitely superior tone. There's a very natural sounding high cut on this pedal which makes it sound better than digital delays. However, its features are a tad dated. Try before you buy.

I traded in my digital delay for this analog unit. I must say it's very smooth and clean although I have noticed a little volume increase when kicked in. Nothing in my opinion will ever replace the sound of the old echo plex or space echo, but this pedal is a great way to go. I used it nightly and have no regrets. Thanks Maxon I really do love this pedal

I purchase the AD999 but I have problems because when the effect is ON, the volume increase, and when of, the volume decrease and people in Maxon don´t have a great answer for me.
