Martin OMC Aura comparison with Taylor 914ce

I want to add to my previous review and share my experience. I have always wanted a Taylor 914ce and the other day I brought one home on trial, and I was almost shocked how much better overall the sound of the Martin was. I play fingerstyle and strum for leading singing in small groups. I simply can't describe the superior bass, separation of notes, loudness, intonation, and overall great sound the Martin exhibited. This is not to say that the Taylor was not beautiful, and had good but not great tone. Buy the Martin, and you'll never look for another acoustic electric.

Not as Good as Zager

Hi - purchased guitar based on reviews and also from playing it at one of the local shops. The guitar has made a consistantly buzzing sound - I found it didn't do so well when strumming. Overall, I have a cheaper Zager guitar that projects and holds the tone better. It appears to be more adapt to fingerpicking than a strumming workhorse.

The best of the best

I have played classical for many years, and I recently decided to go to acoustic electric as I lead singing at church, and I needed a little more brightness and punch. The Martin OMC Aura is the best of three acoustic guitars I own. The other two are a Larrivee, and a Taylor which are also very good. However the Martin is the winner on sustain, bass, intonation and playability. I also play fingerstyle and the Martin is handsdown the best of the best. It does not have the typical extreme mellow Martin sound. It is bell like in the trebles, round and full and defined in the mids, and firm and deep in the bass. I love it.

Martin did it again

I received my OMC Aura two days ago and it was love at first sight. I have several Martin's in my colection of 15 guitars, including an OM 42 that the Custom Shop only made 30 of, and this guitar ranks right at the top with the big boys. I made the mistake of plugging it into my Bose L1 and now my wife is mad at me because I can't seem to drag myself away from it. I went to the music store with the intention of buying the Taylor 814ce, but when the guy plugged the OMC Aura into the L1, there was no contest. It's true, the Taylor is a beautiful guitar (I have a T5), but the quality control is lacking (some of the finishes have 'orange peel' and have to be buffed out). Since Martin's are handmade, they don't suffer this problem. You will love this guitar but it helps if you're not married because if you are, you'll find yourself in trouble!

Martin On Top Of The Game

I've had a handmade Franklin Koa OM (Martin copy)since the mid 80's. It's a fine guitar with a beautiful tone. The playability of the Martin OMC's, the hidden electronics and the cutaway convinced me to buy a new Martin (OMC-16E Koa). These guitars are excellent and my older fingers appreciate the action on this baby. It's nice to see Martin back on top of its game. The value for the money on these guitars is phenomenal. Straight out of the case the guitar played wonderfully and its tone is almost equal to my Franklin. It seems to have a slightly better bass response which is a plus for me. The pickup sounds great and is well hidden so you keep the appearance of a standard acoustic. Check this line out before you buy a Taylor. I've played quite a few and this guitar smokes them for the price.
