Even Smells Like a Martin

Just got his "Little Martin LXM" (Koa) today, and I'm more impressed by the minute with it. What a sound from a "Laminate" guitar. Great sustain and projection and...it's "Laminate". Looks like wood, feels like wood and best of all sounds like wood. I got this for dragging around the mountains, camping/hunting trips, where there can be some extreme humidity/temp changes. If it holds up under these conditions, I can't think of a more capable, better sounding travel guitar. I own other Martin guitars and the construction, cleanliness, and attention to detail of this instrument is Martin quality. And it even Smells like a Martin!

Whomever describes this as a little Martin has never played it. Can't believe that such a good clean and balanced sound can come in such a small package. Better than most $500-$600 guitars. Been playing almost 50 years and own 8 guitars and a banjo----- this one is one of my favorites.

Great Guitar!

Well, first of all, the size is definitly small. When I first saw it I was a little put off until I picked it up and started playing. I absolutely loved the ease of playability. For it's size, the sound quality is great and has a fairly good bass tone. Quality is second to none. This is really a tough-as-nails guitar. I found it really useful to grab when I wanted to strum a melody in my head and I didn't have to worry about digging it out of the case, etc .. The cost is very reasonable and I'd buy another in an instant if mine were damaged or lost.

The Martin LXM: Phenomenal travel guitar!

After trading in my Martin DM for a D-35 last week, I realized that I no longer owned an acoustic that I could "knock around" on. For instance, it isn't exactly prudent to leave your D-35 in the trunk, take it to the beach, take it on ski trips, or throw it around at the park...

I bought a Little Martin LXM this afternoon, and I am COMPLETELY blown away. Essentially constructed from Formica with a laminated neck, this little sucker is an absolute joy to play. The action is low, bends are incomparably easy, and the intonation and tuners are spot-on. What a surprise!

I played similar student/travel models from Yamaha, Ibanez, and Taylor. Nothing compares to the quality of the Little Martin. The Taylor handled treble very well but lacked the bass response of the Little Martin. All comparable travel models demonstrated a proclivity for fret buzzing and inaccurate intonation. They're not even in the same category.

Don't hesitate to pick up a Little Martin: they are incredibly fun to play for beginners and seasoned musicians alike, exceptionally constructed (dare I say indestructible?) and a fantastic way to practice without worrying about inclement environmental issues (humidity is NOT a problem). Could not recommend these little suckers enough!

What else would you need?

I bought this guitar as I was travelling in the US, as I did not bring my full size Martin D-16 or my Taylor 214 with me....It took me a while to decide between a Baby Taylor or a Little Martind, but in the looks department, the Black Martin LX was the one to go for...It is such a looker wherever you take it...and the guitar just begs to be taken everywhere!!!...Not to take away from a full size guitar...but being a "campfire" singer...I find that I need no other guitar..I'm either playing outdoors (HPL is the way to go for that) or I'm on my couch (compact size matters here)...so, What else would you need??? Small scale guitars are wonderful, and take the edge and intimidation that a non-player would feel with a full scale guitar. Love the LXM Black!!!Want an Elvis LXM now!
