My First Martin Guitar
Posted by Gene0 from Nazareth, PA on Apr 20, 2009
Experience w/product: I own it
Reviewer's Background: NEW and learning on this Martin Guitar
Reviewer's Play Style: Anything I can learn.
I have lived in the town that manufactures this wonderful Martin Guitar for 70 years. I have many friends who have worked at the Martin guitar factory and since this is my first attempt at playing a
guitar I had to purchase a Martin.
I'm a novice at the guitar but hope to have many fun times strumming and picking at this wonderful instrument.
The sounds are great and makes my learning attempt so much satisfying. At my senior age in life my goal is to learn to play this wonderful Little Martin. All my friends play well and all own a Martin! ... Gene0 from Nazareth,PA the home of Martin Guitars.

I thought I liked this guitar. Then I got it home and played it along side my Ovation Adamas. I love them both. The electronics in the Martin are great, the tone is incredible, and the value is unbelievable.

This guitar is just incredible for the size and price. Unplugged, it's as loud and clear in my studio as any full-size guitar I've played. The sound truly resonates through all the space in a room. It smells of fine wood essences...I love the smell of this guitar!
It sounds great plugged in. The high notes really chime and the low end is surprisingly rich. I think the preamp could have more features than just volume and tone like maybe an 3-band equalizer...but I guess if you really wanted that you could have it installed yourself.
Overall, I'm ecstatic with this Martin. It's solidly and intelligently built. I originally got it to take a bruising during traveling and camping but I'm going to treat it like it's made of jewel-encrusted eggshells because I love it so much.
The gig bag is really high-quality but I'm getting a 3/4-size hard case in addition. This guitar is worth the best protection you can give it. If you're looking for a "disposable" guitar you should get something less valuable. This is a three-quarter size prize.

I bought it after downsizing my musical instrument collection, needed a guitar to take on vacation, and was not about to pack my Martin D28. I found this little guitar to be more than what I had expected and am now planning on getting the pickup installed so I can play it on gigs. The action is lightning fast. The sound quality is surprizing for a guitar of this size. It is what it is so I don't expect much from the low end. But,,,,my leads cut through with ease when playing along with my acoustic trio. Overall, I Love IT !

Martin knows small guitars!

I am a thin-framed female and bought this guitar primarily for its travel ease (when flying), a thrown around guitar for bringing to parties, and a music conference guitar (where it might be sitting unattended at times). My "prize- Martin" is the 00018 (also a small body guitar that sounds great) and I wanted another option for use in less secure environments. SO I get this Little Martin as my backup and it is SO light and easy to carry (GREAT BAG with backpack straps) IT sounds SO PRO (doing bar, open chords and fingerpicking) that I have used it at all my gigs since purchasing it. It is even GREAT for writing, when you want a small guitar so you can reach over it to write on your pad or type on the computer. I got the electric capable one and it is WORTH THE EXTRA. I bought this guitar based on its good reviews and there is a REASON for these good reviews. It is an amazing value. Sound compromise? So slight I don't think anyone can notice - I used it at a conference and musicians were chomping at the bit asking "what guitar is that?" because it sounded so good from the stage. Sometimes goes out of tune, only because of the gig bag, but easy to carry on board planes (fits in overhead) and they will happily put it in the closet most times, because it is so small. Go for it!
