I decided to go with the Martin and for a little more get the spruce top because Im not very hard on my guitars. If I was going to take it camping or travel a lot I'd recommend the regular LM with the synthetic top. They both sound pretty close to a full size and the neck feels nice and is easy to get around on. The quality is there and I was impressed with range of sound you get out of this 3/4. Most of the others sounded like a toy guitar, spend a little more and get the Martin, I think you'll be glad you did.

I picked up my LX1 nearly 3 years ago. I'd been playing a Seagull. I wanted something to travel with so I sold the Seagull. I was a little disappointed to find it was made in Mexico and the HPL (high pressure laminate) is not really a solid wood and the 'wood texture' is really kind of like sticker—but you would not know that by looking at it.

It plays great and has a good sound for a small guitar. I've taken in flights and many a road trip. My brother has the Koa wood version and he loves it. The action is average and is very playable right out of the box.

I recently bought a 000-28 since I was wanting something with more projection—the LX1 won't match a full size guitar in sound, but it's not supposed to. For what it is, a travel marvel that holds up well, it is a great deal.

I played a Martin Backpacker too (just couldn't get over that odd shape and way you have to hold it to play...not for me).

Little Martin, big sound and playability

Looked at both the Baby Taylor and Little Martin before my purchase. I immediately noticed that the LX1 has much more body to it than the BT1. Additionally, the craftsmanship was much better on the LX1 in comparison to the BT1, specifically the fret board and neck construction. After playing both for a good while the choice was obvious; I now play my Little Martin daily and enjoy every minute of it. Highly recommended for the traveling musician.

Great Lil Martin

I bought this guitar a few weeks ago and I am very pleased with the purchase. I own three other Martin guitars, each guitar plays its own role. I have the D15 Custom with Mahogany(home jamming), the Custom Adirondack Acoustic Electric with Mahogany (Live playing/open mics), and the DX1 (My everywhere guitar). The two customs seldom leave my apartment EVER! The DX1 I would take around to jam with and bring to work. I figured that the LX1 would be easier to transport to and from work and hey, IT'S A MARTIN.

When I received the shipping box that it came in I was shocked. The shipping box was destroyed, but the guitar came out untouched. IT'S A MARTIN.

It played excellent right out of the box, a little tuning and she was ready. I bring this lil sweet thing to work everyday and play until my coworkers start arriving or when I have down time.

The quality of this guitar is incredible. For a smaller sized guitar, this instrument sings. It's easy to play and sounds great.

If you want a travel guitar that sounds great and is easy to take around (Gig bags are not my choice, but it does make carrying this guitar around easy) When I'm not using this guitar I put it away in the SKB Taylor Baby hard case for protection.

I am very happy with this guitar and I believe that Martin does put care and passion into their instruments, just listen to a Martin, big or small and you'll hear the passion in it.

Congrats to Martin on the 175th!

I bought this Little Martin LX1 a week ago and am very pleased with it. It was set up properly out of the box. The guitar is well made and sounds good for it's size. Don't expect it to sound or play like a full size Martin, but it is great as a traveler. I also own a Baby Taylor. The Martin sounds and plays much better in my opinion. The only thing I have done to it is replace the strings. That made it sound even better. The Baby Taylor has a very annoying buzz on the high E string. I'm sure I can take care of that with a shim when I change strings on it, but even saying that, the Little Martin LX1 just has a tighter, fuller sound. I like to finger pick and this guitar handles that well without buzz or rattle. I highly recommend this one.
