For the price, you get a really excellent sounding guitar that plays like a dream. The neck is really comfortable. It is a classic looking instrument that is prettier in person than in the photos. I didn't need an integrated pickup/preamp, so was really excited to not pay extra for something I wasn't going to use--you are just paying for great acoustic sound. I can't imagine someone not falling in love with this one.

I purchased my Martin DM new from a local guitar shop 13 years ago. The DM seemed the most playable, with a noticeably brighter sound than the other Martins in stock there. The finish has held up very well over time with only minor wear on the neck from play.

So this DM has a clear sound that will chime in your ears even after you fall asleep. It frets so easy, it feels like it chords itself. Great overtones and easy harmonics. Martin did us right on this one guys. Buy this, get it set up by a pro (if needed) and this will take you as far as any $3000 Martin will. Dont be a sucker, this is the one, trust me ... I installed the fishman pickup and it sounds great through an amp as well ...

Years ago I bought a DM12 and played it for several years before selling it. I happened to be in Martin Dealer shop and asked to play a DM out of curiosity. I could not believe its resonance and easy response. This guitar has the most volume and is easiest to play of all my instruments. I bought it as a knock around, but now end up playing more often than my HD28 and my Gibson Advanced Jumbo. I highly reccommend.

I've owned my DM now for two years.

It came poorly setup, hence the 4.5 rating. After replacing a mis-cut nut, restringing to a lighter gauge string, dropping the bridge and adjusting the truss rod, the guitar is far more playable, but has lost some of its tone from the heavier gauge strings it shipped with.

All in all, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this instrument after dealing with the dissappointing action, though it is pretty playable today.

I wound up carefully polishing out the satin finish to more of a low luster look and to me, the guitar now looks better. That process, however, also thinned the lacquer finish somewhat.

All in all, I'd buy a Larivee before I'd buy another Martin. Better tone, action and setup.
