After you've played all the Taylors, Gibsons and other Martins, try a Golden Era model. These are just fantastic instruments, built like the old days. My D18-GE is the best sounding guitar I've played in over 30 years of playing.

The neck is a bit tough to get used to. If you like the Mod-V neck, this guitar cannot be beat!

Sings Loud and Beautiful

Wow. I've played quite a few of the current Martin roster, along with tons of just about every other "high-end" producer. This D18 GE is simply extraordinary. Loud, clear, very defined and solid tone that has depth and complexity (ahem ... dare I say, "soul"). Love the wider string spacing for both flat picking and finger picking. Very balanced and responsive. And I had thought that I was a rosewood man. But this mahogany beauty is amazing and will match or better any Martin rosewood in fullness and richness, and give you that crisp mahogany definition at the same time. This will also exceed most acoustics (of any brand) in just sheer beautiful and balanced volume. Over the years, I've come to realize how outrageously over-priced most high end guitars are. That being said, the next spare cash I run across will very likely make this my go-to axe. It sings!

ps. the 000-18 GE is also amazing, and I prefer it over the other more popular high end (autographed) Martin 000's.

All About the Tone

Not a fancy guitar. Almost no decoration at all. With this one, it's all about tone. This is one of the most versatile acoustics around. It excels at flatpicked stuff, as you'd expect. It's sweet and loud and really stands out from all the rosewood dreadnaughts. But this one also works great for fingerstyle. It has a wide fingerboard and and a complex sound that's just wonderful. Disadvantages: the saddle is glued in, so it makes for fewer pickup choices. (not a big deal for most people) And it has plastic bridge pins. Come on, guys! But you need to play this thing. It's one of Martin's best and one of the best acoustics around.

Biggest guitar sound you've ever heard. I've been playing for 28 years so I'm use to lots of playing. Let me be honest. This guitar is hard to play. But after about a year of playing it your finger muscles get use to it and build up. The simple equation is this... Large strings and high action = Great tone and lots of volume. You can really spank this guitar and it answers back BIG. What a great investment!

One of the best new acoustic guitars you can buy today. The combination of mahogany and Adirondack spruce create a guitar with power and a wide tonal sprectrum.
