Martin D-18 Standard

Having played for over 40 years, I have found the D-18 Standard to be a reliable workhorse. It's not a fancy guitar, but sounds better than guitars that sell for twice the price. I love the bright, clean sound of mahogany! Rosewood has a mellow tone, which is fine if that's what you want. I like twang and volume! For Country, Bluegrass, Rock-a-billy, or Classic Rock, you just can't beat this guitar!

2007 Martin D-18, one of the best acoustic guitars ever made...period. There's a reason that so many famous guitar players own at least two or three of these. Don't take my word for it, go play one!

I had a D-18. Good guitar

My D-18 was bought new in '73, and I liked it a lot. It was stolen in '76. It had crystal clear tone and good bass, but the neck was a bit thick for me. I thought my friend's D-28 V-back sounded and played better. There is a difference in these guitars. Mahogany is a bit stiffer than rosewood. I noticed the D-28 felt like better quality in my hands. It just had an overall better feel. Just my opinion.

Best deal I ever got

I bought my D-18 in 78, was built in 74 and contrary to some people mahogany does mature over time. It sounded great when I bought it and sounds even better now. Unless you are a wood snob more concerned about species and resale prices instead of a player that wants sound quality by all means pay more for something else, but if you are a player buy this model for a lifetime of pure playing pleasure that only gets better as the years go by. I wouldn't trade mine for two of anything else.

Vintage D-18

I own a vintage 1955 Martin D-18. It is a sunburst, and in that year, only 17 sunbursts were made. It is my favorite guitar, although I am predominately an electric guitar player, this is the sweetest sounding guitar out there. It is the first vintage guitar I ever played. It is actaully my Mom's, but I get to play it. The new ones are great too. They are some of the sweetest guitars. I would tell anyone looking for an end-all quality acoustic guitar without electronics to get one of these. Happy Playing!
