With its mahogany construction and simple appointments, the Martin D-15 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar is reminiscent of the 15 Series guitars of the 1940s. This Martin dreadnought marks the reintroduction of mahogany-top guitars to Martin's line. Body and neck constructed from genuine mahogany with a rosewood fretboard. The mahogany body and top is much lighter in weight than rosewood, koa, or maple and yields a surprisingly strong, warm sound with an emphasis on clear, bright, airy trebles.

Martin D-15 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Genuine mahogany body and neck
  • Tortoise-color pickguard
  • A-frame X-bracing
  • Rosewood fingerboard and bridge
  • Neck width at nut 1-11/16"
  • 25-2/5" scale length
  • 20 frets

Excellent Martin Quality

I used to own a couple of Mahogany D-15 guitars, but I foolishly sold them all. Wow, what a guitar! I now play a Martin D-16RGT, which is an excellent instrument, but I still miss the D-15. It was the easiest fretting guitar I've ever come across. It's worth having one around just to open and smell ocassionally! Mine did start to open up and sound better after a couple of years. When space and money allow, I plan on replacing this guitar. While my D-16 RGT has a louder projection, with a nice solid sitka spruce top, I miss the bright, yet mellow, sound of my D-15 with a nice set of strings. They tend to be set up less stiff than the average Martin. If you are on the fence about one, let me save you some time: just get it. You'll never regret it.

I've owned the D-15 for about 6 years now, it seems to sound better all the time. I have played many guitars that are three to four times the cost of the D-15, and my D-15 is right up there with the big money guitars. If you want the most sound for your money, this is the guitar for you.

I have had my all mahogany, satin finish D-15 for 7 years now and it is one of the most played guitars at any jam I go to. Everone wants to play the D-15. The satin finish is now becoming shiny on the top from all the playing and it just sounds better every day. I used to use expensive strings but since it is played so often and so much I have gone to Martin Darco strings and change them about once a month. I thought about upgrading but when I tried other guitar I couldn't upgrade the sound and tha's what I'm after. The sound, the feel, and the playablility of the D-15 suits me and I might be impressed with other guitars but I am solidly sold on my little D-15.

Didn't know if I would like the satin finish but I couldn't care less now after owning it for over a year. I prefer this over a plastic finish. This is one of those guitars that just sounds better the harder you strum it. The build quality on these is just first rate as everything is just spot on. Tuners are as good as any I've used and hold really well. I've had many complements on the sound of this guitar but would like to think that some of that could be attributed to the player as well. Don't see why this guitar wouldn't outlast me with reasonable care. This is also one of the few guitars that you could sell 5 years down the road and get your money back out of it, but if your a serious player, chances are, that would ever happen. Great guitar for the money!
