This Martin Custom D Classic Acoustic Guitar is the real deal and a real steal. Crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides. The mahogany Custom D guitar also has a tortoise binding, modified low-oval mahogany neck with a mortise-and-tenon joint and adjustable truss rod. Solid Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, and inlaid single-ring rosette complete this Martin guitar. The mahogany body on the Custom D guitar is much lighter in weight than rosewood, koa, or maple and yields a surprisingly strong, loud sound with an emphasis on clear, bright, airy trebles. I've owned this guitar for a year and a half and it is a top quality guitar all the way. Great bass and mid, high is very good, may have to pick hard sometimes to bring the highs out. The guitar records very well. The smell of the wood gets me every time I open the case. I'm very satisfied that I bought this.

The best accoustic I've ever played

I really love the tone you get from Martin guitars, especially the ones with a matte finish. Most of the ones with a matte finish are made of laminates but this one is solid wood which means a nicer sound. The mahogany back and sides give it more of a mellow and deeper sound than the similiar models with rosewood. Also, for people like me with small hands (my wife who is a good six inches shorter than me has bigger hands) this guitar is perfect. Most nicer accoustic guitars have big chunky necks which means I can only play them a short time before my left hand starts to hurt. This guitar (as well as it's rosewood brother and DSR cousin) have the smallest necks available. Nice, but somewhat plain looks (the only thing I'll knock about this guitar), the matte finish, the small neck (both of which I love), combined with the legendary Martin tone which has allowed them to make guitars since 1833 make this the best acoustic guitar I've played in my 15+ years of playing. On top of that, just try to find a Martin guitar made from solid wood for this price. All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

I've owned several Martins from lower end to (very) high end. The "Custom is without a doubt, 100% Martin. Wonderful mahogany sound, low neck and outstanding Martin workmanship. That's why I continue to own Martin's. Very reasonable price for the quality of this guitar.

I've been playing for years & have experienced that Martin is up there with the elite group of acoustic guitar makers. I like the sound better than Taylors, Guilds... I paired my D with a Fishman Rare Earth active humbucker & run it thru my Loudbox or Carvin RX1200 PA which magnifies the beauty of it's sound.

I bought this guitar exactly one year ago and it has become my daily player. Everything else that I have except for an old Ovation Cebrity (my stage guitar) is gathering dust.

I love this guitar so much that I barely even touch my electrics anymore. I've got a bit of a Strat fetish and have been socking away money for the latest generation of stratocaster, but I just can't pull the trigger, because I know that it will take time away from my Martin (and work family, etc).

I'll echo the comments of others...buy this guitar you won't be dissapointed. I prefer the mahog to the rosewood only because it's better for fingerpicking and a litle more balanced to my ears. Only complaint: that beautiful smell is beginning to fade--but the sound is really opening up.

I'm a huge fan of the satin finish. I think the guitar sounds silkier and more balanced because of it.

I haven't experienced any patina issues etc, but I don't mind if I do, so it's all good to me.

I love the case, too. classiest case for a guitar this price, but I wouldn't ship it or fly it (I couldn't afford to fly a guitar anyway).

Enjoy it, these days there's not a lot of good deals out there, and this is one of the best.
