As far as your amp is concerned, the Power Brake is the same as speakers—an active load changing constantly with output level. Hooked up to this, you can pump authentic cranked stack sound through a single small cab at modest levels. The Marshall Power Brake Attenuator is essential for getting an overdriven tone at reasonable volume on vintage amps without a gain knob, for hard-rock studio work, and great for controlling onstage sound in clubs. Fan cooled, 100W power handling, eleven-step attenuator. 13 lbs.

Marshall PB100 Power Brake Inductive Speaker Attenuator Features:

  • Get a cranked stack sound at any volume with any size amp
  • 100W power handling
  • Fan cooled
  • Eleven-step attenuator

Lets you turn it on without turning up. Order the Power Brake today.

Does the job

I have an old Plexi that is just too loud for any venue but the largest arenas, so practicing at home is a challenge to the neighborhood. Enter the PB100 - it does just what you need it to do and that is maintain a good sound while not peeling the paint off the houses two blocks away. I dinged the features because I would like to see a 4 ohm loading option. It does suck away some of the tone, but less than the other competitors, and for the reduction in volume it is a necessary (but not dramatic) sacrifice. It is a bit expensive, but it is a high quality, takes the punishment of the nightclubs, piece of gear. I recommend that anyone looking at the market for a piece of gear of this type give a long hard look at this unit.

I have used many attenuators and this one is it. I use mine through a couple of amps-82 marshall 800-soldano and a Evh 3.It,s a must for the EVH. it's very heavy duty, a bit pricey but what can you do.Jim Marshall has bills to pay too

The power break does exactly what it's supposed to do. If you don't like the sound of your amp on a power break, then you don't like the sound of your amp. Amps and tubes change in sound as you start to push them. It's not the power break that makes your amp sound different, it's the fact that your listening to your amp "dimmed" at a lower volume that sounds different. You wanted tube breakup...that's why you bought the power break in the first place. Compressed, rolled off treble, increased midrange body and flubbier bass is what most power amp tubes do when pushed. Learn to like it, or don't use a power attenuator to dime your amp. I've been using this thing for ten years on the same amp with no problems. Only issue is that it's too expensive.

Prepare to completely rework your tone to adjust to the change in the preamp saturation. But once you've got it... YOU'VE GOT IT! My Marshall JCM has never sounded better than now!

It took ten years, but now I've got the last piece of equipment in the rig... for now.

I rated the value low because I think the price is way too high.
