I gave this amp all fives because I like it so much. The classic/crunch channel cranked sounds amazing. The ultra channel can dish out some great lead tones. Ultra channel can be bright but all you have to do is lower the presence and treble and it sounds great. In my opinion this beats the jvm. The vintage modern comes close though.

First and foremost, i would like to pay my respects to Marshall for manufacturing one of the best tube series amps out there. The tone on this puppy is phenomenal. The tone shifts and deepening effect allow for a huge range of high gains to deep warmth. I play hard/alternative rock in a band and this thing nails it. My true love lies with the blues and let me say i can create any sound from STV to the allman bros and back. With the 50W you can get the tubes to burn much more hot while keeping it relatively quiet, but dont get the wrong idea, this puppy can scream when and if you want it to. The price is a little much although you are def. getting what you pay for. Team it up with a jcm900 cab like me if you can find one or a 1960 will also get the job done. All in all GREAT STUFF!!!!!

I got this after my TSL 100 combo crapped out on me. No matter what I play or what guitar I'm playing with, this head can do it all. I've using my Tele, or either of my Les Pauls (a classic and the sweet Nashville Double Cut Jr.) and they all sound incredible. Our drummer hated the idea of me buying a British amp but he soon changed his mind. Like they say, it can go from Nashville clean to the heaviest distortion! I gave it a 3.5 on features cuz I really wish they'd put another eq for the second channel (Like my Mesa/Boogie Lone Star Special). Other than that, its a fantastic head, for any and all styles of music (running it through the 1960 av cab). I've been giggin heavily with it for over a year and a half and have had no problems with it. Great job Marshall!!!

Do yourself a favor, don't try to by cheaper tube amps...you might save some $ up front but you will never be happy. I tried a Peavey 2x12 valve king and it was OK but I still wasn't happy. I regreted selling my JCM 900 a few years ago, so after I grew tired of waiting on the Vintage Modern I got this head.. wow!!!

I use this with a 1978 Gibson Les Paul Standard and a 2x12 closed back with Celestions and omygod just what everyone else has said already, this is the amp. Not much dialing in needed, it just sounds amazing immediately. Of course its a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Do you want people going, "cool, that person's guitar tone is inexpensive!" This is the Jimmy Page/Hendrix etc. sound!!!

I got this amp, about 5 months ago. First I loved, then I hated, now I am back to love it. I can get killer tones for punk, country, rock, and blues. The clean channel I think I love the most, it can do so much. Throw a tube screamer in front of it and you got a full on roar. I also can get a start like tone by pushing my wah at toe down from my SG. The dirt channel is pretty good to. I like to run my boss EQ and helps get some more gain out of it with out get muddy, because if you turn the gain up on it you lose all focus from your low end. And for me it doesn’t have that much bass, I run mine at 10 with the deep switches on and it just gets by. The reverb on it isn’t that good, it has a fake sound to it, but I am use to fender reverb.

All and all it is a good amp, you might have to but some pleads to get the sound you want or you might not . But if your looking for a full blown metal amp, this aint it.
