The format and versatility of the 1x12 40W Marshall Haze combo makes it the perfect partner for guitarists looking for a gig-worthy compact workhorse with enough features, power, and tone capabilities to handle a wide variety of situations. The cabinet is finished in high-grade vinyl with protective corners. Its vintage-style baffle is covered in a hand-stretched, acoustically transparent fret cloth, and the cabinet is finished with white piping and hard-wearing cabinet furniture to ensure your Marshall MHZ40C looks great.
With its EL34 power stage and ECC83 powered preamp, this portable 40W combo is designed to deliver to the guitarist's expectations through the power and feel of its tubes. Laid out in a top-loaded format, the Marshall Haze sports 2 distinctive footswitchable channels. In normal mode the tone circuitry of the Haze 40W provides low-gain sounds that are crisp and honest, providing a really nice clean tone. Dialed from a single volume control, the normal channel provides ample headroom to play at volume without losing the definition of your guitar.
The amp's boost switch in normal mode pushes the lower shapes of your tone by adding more gain and extra punch in the lower midsection for a fuller sound, perfect for fattening up thinner-sounding single coil pickups. The bright switch delivers added sparkle enhancing upper range of your guitar's sound and adding a crisper edge and more defined, brighter feel. Combined, the boost and bright switches will allow you to push the normal channel so that it stands out above the unmodified normal sound.
The overdrive channel of the Marshall Haze 40W delivers a classic tone option with a separate gain control. It's possible to dial in preamp drive that distorts the sound and makes it easy to access that more aggressive rock and blues attitude without losing the definition of your guitar. The addition of the boost switch to the overdrive sound really pushes you into lead territory with sustain to spare, ensuring that you can access that extra punch when required.
Both the normal and overdrive channels on the Marshall Haze amp use a shared 3-band EQ, allowing you to individually adjust the treble, midrange, and bass to suit your taste.
The effects section of the Haze MHZ40C combo contains custom-voiced effects and reverb that have been specially designed by Marshall to complement the feel and tone of the amplifier. Each effect selected on the channel (normal, overdrive and overdrive boost) will be remembered when you return to the channel, meaning you can set up your clean, overdrive, and lead sounds and return to them over and over again without having to readjust your settings. The warm emulated spring reverb has its own independent control, allowing you to add in as much or as little reverb as required. For those who want to completely remove the reverb circuitry from the equation, the reverb control is fitted with a positive off switch, meaning that by rotating the control counter-clockwise you can feel the control click indicating that the reverb circuitry is switched off.
Effects are selected using the top panel button and indicated by the color of the LED. Green indicates that Echo effect is selected, orange shows that Vibe is selected, red indicates Chorus. Effect depth and adjust controls allow considerable flexibility in a simple format for ease of use.
I bought this amp because I was tired of the harsh solid state tones I was getting from my Marhall AVT 150H half stack. I wanted a portable all tube combo with inspiring tone that I could more easily haul to my gigs.
Despite not having the high gain associated with the Marshall name, I love the tone of this amp. I play small venues of about 100-150 people and typically don't get this thing past 50% capacity so I cannot drive it hard enough to get high gain (if its even on the menu)
My set up is as follows Gibson SG into a powered Furman pedalboard with the following: MXR Dyna Comp into Ibanez Tube Screamer into Big Muff Pi into Dunlop Wah into Boss Tuner pedal. I think the already high quality tone coming from this amp is massaged even further by my choice of pedals and guitar. I've used this amp on 3 gigs now and I've had nothing but compliments so far. Its plenty loud and the clean sounds are studio-worthy, especially good with the dyna comp kicked in.
I marked it down on features because of the gain issue I mentioned earlier. Also, when you guys try to set this thing up on a tilt back amp stand you will notice that the jacks for the power supply and footswitch are inconveniently located precisely where the bars for the amp stand need to go. To remedy this I had to slide the amp off center and hope I wasn't going to bump it during the gig. Also, the plastic nut used for the input is already coming loose after only 3 practices and 3 gigs. Luckily the tone I get out this amp is good enough for me to let the other issues slide.

Not a bad piece for the money but think MG series with tubes. In fact Marshall has a new MA Series thats a cut above this line same price range just came out. I could find good enough tones on mine but was always twisting knobs to get a better clean or meatier crunch. Even tried patching to different cabs still sounded dull and not quite what it should be. Sounds OK maxed out but that was it for me. I own 6 different Marshall amp combos and heads this was the first one I ever sent back...

TUBES BLEW . . .

I had this thing running full on during a jam session and milked those EL34's for all they were worth resulting in a catastrophic failure in the power-amp section . . . it sounded good for a good hour before that happened. My 5150 combo still hasn't been pushed to that hard, flash bulb failure.

Great little amp for the dough

This is a smokin' little combo for the dough. As a "Marshall guy" I've waited a long time for this amp. The size and portability of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, with Marshall tone voicings. Quite simply, it rocks. I gave it a 3.5 for quality because honestly, I think it could be better built. A quick cursory run through of the amp will tell you that the pots and switches are chinzy, and a good look at the cab and chassis will show you that they're not anywhere near up to standard Marshall grade. It seems like they stuck a tube amp in an MG enclosure. I'm not gonna gripe too much, because it's also QUITE a bit more affordable than the UK models, and if it proves gig-reliable it'll be alright. I'm just not convinced of it's toughness yet, it's still too new. I feel like I should mention, the guy below who blew his trnasformer out, it's not a fluke. It's par for the course. If you read your manual, you'll see, you CAN NOT run an extension cab with this amp. You WILL melt it. It has two jacks, but you can only run either the internal speaker, or an external cab, you cannot run both, the amp is not designed for that, and it will blow up. A weird design, but we get what we get I guess. Overall, I am very happy with the sound. No, it isn't vintage Marshall, but it IS a whole pile of really cool Marshall-esque tones in a really portable, loud little box. Which is exactly what I expected of it. Personally, I would have been happy to do without the onboard FX in favor of a better cab, and a variable boost level, but modern times demand stupid stuff like on-board delay, and costs have to get cut somewhere to make that happen. I would much rather have seen this come out as a plain jane channel switching Marshall in a bulletproof box, but I guess it's good marketing to put the digital junk in there to get the little Line 6 nu rock puppies interested in a Marshall. As for the FX, they are fair quality. Plenty good for onboard digi amp FX, but nothing to write home about, and certainly not studio quality. Oh well. Overall, a great little amp in my opinion, awesome sounds at all volume levels, and the breakup when you crank the clean side is beautiful. For the bucks, it's definitely a keeper if it proves tough enough for the road.

I was so glad I bought this amp but it blew a transformer after three weeks of careful use. Used it on a couple gigs. I have a lot of marshall and fender amps, I play mostly gibsons and PRSs. This amp became my new favorite after one gig. It's the same size and wattage as a fender hot rod deluxe but is far supier in tone and volume. I run an extention cab w a vintage 30 and I put one in the amp and it warmed it up just a little. Pretty similar speaker as the 66 watt it comes with. The chrunch side really opens up with the second speaker. I blew a transformer and the shop said it was a one in a million thing. They were unable to get a new part and they r sending me a new amp. That was through guitar center. Same as here, they take care of things pretty well. I cannot wait to have it back. It put a whole new spring in my step! Certian high notes in certian frequencies that get lost in the compression with my 100 watt heads really come to life with this little amp and with the extra cab it will handle any room. It's small and lite witch makes life even better. My perfect amp to bring to open blues night jams as well.
