Marshall ED-1

This compressor is about average (and the average compressor sucks). When the attack takes place, there is a very abrupt and audible loss of tone along with the loss of transience (string attack). With the attack set to the quickest response, the tone begins, sustains, and ends with a lack of presence.

Of course, the loss of tone is a trade-off for the sustain (which is as good as any other pedal's).

The only other issue is that the "emphasis " control seems to have a very drastic "Q" dropoff. That is, you can either have mids, highs, or lows, but no combunation of any two of the three.

Marshall is a great company, and there is no such thing as a transparent compressor, but this thing left me feeling like something was missing from my tone. It takes away more than it adds. Keep in mind that I am going for a more organic, tubey tone. Maybe I will try the EHX Black Finger next.

Just picked this up from a local music store, and it's definitely worth the money. It seems to be built like a tank. The greatest thing about it is, it doesn't alter your tone, in anyway, period. You could seriously leave it on all the time, and the only thing you'd notice would be longer sustain. Definitely one of the better compressors out there.

For the money, the Marshall ED-1 Edward Compressor Pedal is one of the better sustainer's out there. Easy to use, noticeable but subtle differences, I was using a Handmade, "Ross Compressor Clone" But this one has better features and gets the job done.
