Amazing

I've had this amp for about three weeks and I've had the privalege of already getting to use it for four shows in that short amount of time. My band plays classic old school inspired rock n' roll. (AC/DC, GNR, similar originals). It is a screaming monster of classic rock n' roll tone. It delivers the classic AC/DC tone in spades. When I use this at gigs, I usually turn my cabinet facing the back wall...and even UNMIKED it still cuts through the mix when I play leads...with the volume on 2!!!

This amp is great. Loud, but great. its volume is not to be underestimated if you have never played it before. Its tone is best with no pedals, but because of its massive amounts of volume (and I play a 2x12, with 25w greenbacks) you will probably need to get your distortion with a pedal at most average sized shows. I am somewhat disappointed on such occasions, because i didnt buy this amp to be using pedals, but at the times when it is used for my intentions, I am never let down. Ive played it with my Strat and bandmates SG, and it responded nicely with both, although takes longer to break up with the mellower strat pickups (aka distortion comes at a louder volume than a guitar with p 90s or humbuckers). Amp does Hendrix, Allman, and prime era Clapton no problems, what more can I say?

I own this head and play out with it constantly. The tone is amazing with the correct floor pedal and the pick attack is the best. I also own a marshall jcm 2000 100 watt super lead and the plexi wins hands down. I would say if you play out...buy it.

You can quit looking for the vintage sound

I have played the guitar for 30 years. I played professionally in Vegas and LA area in original, Led Zeppelin and UFO tributes. I have used a Marshall JCM DSL 2000 and have been looking for a back up. After trying Vintage Modern combo and head after many reviews and articles, I settled on the 1987x. This head is extraordinary. I bought two; one stock the other modified by David Bray. I plug straight in using a Lexicon reverb unit in an effects loop with a Suhr Minimix. The head has classic Marshall break up and good clean sound when you turn the guitar volume down. I tried a double neck twelve string, Les Pauls, Flying V's and Strats through it; it is THE 70's sound for cleaner music but also sounds ferocious when turned up. I have no post purchase worries.
