Left-facing Right-facing Handwired Group Shot Top Back Greenback Speaker

The Marshall 1974X 18W 1x12 Combo Amp is a handwired reissue of the model 1974, a combo originally produced from 1965 to 1968. Introduced as a practice combo amp in 1965, it wasn't as loud as the terror-inducing heads Marshall was producing, but it could rock, giving up incredible lead and crunch sounds at low volumes. The 1974X combo comes with 2 EL84 tubes in the power amp, 3 ECC83s in the preamp, an EZ81 rectifier tube, and features valve-driven tremolo. A proprietary, aged reissue of the 20W, ceramic magnet Celestion T1221 speaker used in the original adds to the Marshall 1974X's tonal authenticity. Marshall includes a footswitch with your 1974X Combo Amp.

Just Add A Les Paul

I have owned two of these amps. The first one, years ago, was when I was pretty much playing my tele and not much else. I was underwhelmed. These days, my main guitar is a 59 Les Paul reissue and that has made all of the difference in the world with this amp. It absolutely sings when you attach a set of humbuckers - the dead on sound of classic rock of the early to mid seventies. If you have a ton of time on your hands, turn on the tremolo, set up a looping pedal and try not to stay up all night.... Enjoy!

Oh, one more thing... Iplugged in the tele again and I'll stand by the humbucker statement. This amp requires a steady diet of humbuckers and solid chunks of mahogany.

Best amplifier for recording blues

Thirty years ago I owned a 50-watt Marshall stack and never have forgotten what incredible sound it had. When I needed a recording/practice amp last year, I tried several expensive boutique amps. However, the handwired 1974X blew them all away. A few days later, the output transformer blew, which is a common problem with this model. I then bought a complete set of three transformers from Mercury Magnetics and installed them, along with better tubes and slightly larger capacitors by Hovland. At this point, this is the BEST amplifier I've ever heard, cost-no-object! Touch sensitivity, harmonics, and overall "tone" are incredible! Buy this amp but PLEASE do yourself a favor and mod it.

I saw this in a magazine and thought to myself, "I wonder if this sounds as good as it looks?". So I was eager to play one, the only problem was that noone had any around. So I took a gamble and ordered one with the trade of my Marshall DSL 100 w/ two 1960 A cabs. (Too much to lug around from show to show). I wasn't and still am not dissapointed what so ever! I've owned it over a year and a half and have never had a problem 250 shows later. I run this in stereo with a Fender DRRI, MAGIC!

I wandered in a local guitar shop and spotted this baby. Just out of curiosity took a les paul and tried it out. I played it for 2-3 minutes. I shaked and shivered all over my body... drove back home and put all of my stuff on sale (car, pedalboard filled with rare boutique items, even one of my beloved guitars, Computer etc.). 2 days later took it at home. You see, this is not a good amp. This amp IS THE GREAT CLASSIC MARSHALL TONE!

IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD!!!
