I bought this pedal today. I play a stock Ibanez RG350DX with a Dean Markley 90 watt amp. I've been trying to tweak my sound to what i need and thanks to this I'm just about there. When used on a clean amp it gives a great 80's hard rock sound. When in front of a dirty amp it just SCREAMS metal. There is a tad bit of hum when used with the dirty amp, but im planning on getting a noise suppressor soon so it won't bother me.

I don't know if it was my amp settings or the pedal but i just couldn't get a decent sound out of this pedal. I play epiphone les pauls through a mesa f50 1 12 combo that sounds great together. I tried the pedal on my clean channel just for a overdrive sound and it just didn't get dirty much like i've seen in video's. I also tried it as a boost like zakk does and all i got was a lot feedback and cycle hum when i wasn't playing. When i did play it does give a lot of sustain.

I've been playing for over 30 yrs and have been a die hard Boss user for the last twenty. I just recently switched over to MXR products about a month ago, the Stereo Chorus and Carbon Copy Delay being the first of two changes. Of course the hardest pedals to part with were my Boss OD-2 & SD-1 as these were the heart of my tone. Much to my surprise, the Wylde Overdrive blew my away with it's incredible tone and versatility! Although isn't "strong" enough on it's own in the front end of a clean amp, two of them in tandem work wonders and can achieve the perfect amount of clean, warm, articulate gain you'll ever need! I'm now a huge fan of MXR pedals and their incredible sound, true-bypass and tank like construction. Simply put...Killer Tone!

I got this pedal to replace an older OD and good lord! Im glad I did. This is, hands down one of the best OD pedals I ever got to use. Its good for what ever you want to use it for. I'll use it by itself for that creamy yet thick OD sound with a lil extra gain. Then I'll also use it with my Boss DS-1 to shred killer solos or to just harden out it all but still keep the right tones. Word to the wise; if your putting it in a series of pedals like I do, put the MXR before your distortion because it will sound like dookie and I dont mean Green Day! I am also using a line 6 150watt solid state amp with it and have had no problems with this pedal.

I tend to agree with the reviewers that this box should be used in front of a tube amp. I own a Marshall Valstate VS100R, which only has a tube in the preamp section. It is noisy when I used it directly in front. But when I use it in the effects loop, it is quiet and controllable. It gives me a nice, warm overdriven sound when I use it with my Fender HM Strat (w/EVH Frankestein HBs), and a tight crunch with the EMG 91/85s in my Jackson. I recommend you try this pedal out with your own amp before you buy it. I'm very happy with mine.
