I love the addition of the attack feature. It keeps the compression even, avoiding that millisecond over compressed 'clip' that always plagued my old DOD compressor. Perfect for that snappy Nashville sound. Great MXR quality.

Can't go wrong with it

I hate that I need compression on my board. It's such a not fun effect to spend money on. But I need it. So I looked around and tried different kinds. I got it after returning my BOSS CS unit. This is much better AND more inexpensive. You can dial in just the right spot for good compression and sustain. It gets the job done and it's affordable. It offers a little more control than the Dyna Comp, so I like that. It's built amazingly sturdy. I don't like that the AC power jack is right next to the input quarter inch jack. That was just silly. It can get noisy but a lot of compressors do. It also gets frustrating if your guitar has very different sounds from pickup switches like mine does. For instance, I'll set a level of compression that's great for my single coil only to realise that it's way too noisy for my humbucker. I'll dial in something great for distortion that sounds anemic clean. So it's a work in progress, but I think it's a quality unit and with a bit of a learning curve I'll be able to use it anywhere in good health.

Just got one of these babies. I really like it. I've been very satisfied using my Dyna-Comp and was interested to check out the new SuperComp when it was introduced not too long ago. Used it for my first time tonight, and again I am very happy with its performance. The attach knob really can warm up the sound and add transparency. But you can still get the squishy DynaComp sound if thats what you're after.
I'll be the first to admit that compressors can be a bit confusing to get dialed in on your first few attempts. I'm actually glad I started with the two-knob DynaComp. It makes it a little easier to dial in, since you don't have too many extra adjustments to confuse things. Then moving to the SuperComp was easy, cause I just set it the same as the DynaComp, and play with the Attack. Instantly found settings superior to my DynaComp, and was very pleased with my new Pedal. If its your first compressor, maybe try the DynaComp. But it makes a great upgrade from the DynaComp and a lot of other tonesucking compressors out there. Two thumbs up to MXR for this one.

tone sucker! 'hardwire bypass', not true bypass

I originally purchased a compressor to add sustain to my country chicken-pickin' leads, and to make the notes in chords hold in a bit longer. I initially was very happy with this pedal. The attack knob adds a ton of versatility and it eliminates some of the 'poppy, clickiness' that dyna comps are known for. It essentially allowed the compressor to sound more tranparent, although it could sound like a dyna comp when needed. There are better sounding, more transparent compressors out there, but for the price I was very content with the pedal. Unfortunately, after a while I noticed that this pedal was hugely sucking the tone from my signal when it was disengaged. When the pedal was disengaged, my tone was sterile and anemic, and horrible. When I took the pedal out of my board, the 'sterileness' was gone. Then I looked it up and found out that this pedal is 'true hardwire bypass', not true bypass as I had been tricked into believing. For the value, the pedal is good. But for me, it's way too much of a tone sucker. I am going with a high end true-bypass boutique compressor.

I just received my new MXR Super Comp today. This is my first compressor, but I've read up on and experimented with a few others. This has a great sound to it. It's not as transparent as some of the higher-end botique models, so you can hear some change in the tone. However, this is still a GREAT compressor. I LOVE IT. It's MXR, so you know you're getting a great product. If you need a great compressor for a good price, but it.
