Best EQ on the market.

The MXR -108 is hands-down the best EQ of it's type. I mainly use it in the effects loop of my amp, but it can be used for many different applications as well. ANY signal can be routed through this unit with great results. I've even used it to enhance pre-recorded tracks before finalizing some of my recordings. If you're looking for an EQ, just buy this one and you'll be happy.

The best E.Q.!

I looked at a lot of E.Q. pedals. At first I just wanted to fix a low end problem between my Fender 100w head and my vintage Sun 4X12 cab. The MXR took care of that and so much more. I coul'nt believe the control options of this box. The Cut/ boost is exeptional. Better than other pedals. Also the ten bands exceed the Hz. of my guitar, and I can use it for 5 string bass, keyboard, even kick drum. This pedal also has seperate volume, and gain which gives sound shaping an ultimate edge. I lowerd the volume and boosted the gain to keep my overal volume the same w/ a great drive sound. Another thing is I own alot of pedals and this one by far is the toughest built. I could probably drag this thing behind my truck fo a fer miles and still plug it in, working just fine. Everyone could use this pedal no mater what you play. I recomend getting one.

A year ago I gave up on my solid-state fender amp and purchased an all tube combo from Traynor. The YCS50 by Traynor is one of the best tube amps I have ever heard and would not trade it for anything. As everyone knows, it takes time to find the right sounds. When I was working on my tone, I realized that I could not get a bright, clear tone without the sound becoming slightly harsh and piercing. I could turn up the treble of the amp, but it's turning up a wide range of frequencies- some that I don't want to be turned up. I searched and searched for a solution and came upon the MXR 10-Band EQ. A fellow guitarist told me it wasn't necessary, so I held off from buying one. I new that EQ's with 6 or 7 bands were simply not enough. I finally bought the 10-band one because I could not find a negative review about it. One year later, I have already convinced 3 other people to buy one. Here is my set up: Schecter C-1 Classic into a Robert Keeley mod Plus Tubescreamer (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!), into the Damage Control 'Liquid Blues' dual tube overdrive pedal, to a phase 90, to a line 6 tap tremolo. In the effects loop (or pre-amp in amp-out), I have the MXR 10-Band EQ first, followed by the Boss DD-20 Delay. I'm able to boost the treble frequencies I want and cut the harsh ones. I'm also able to get bass frequencies without the tone becoming muddy or boomy. My friend uses a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. His tone without the MXR EQ is so boomy and muddy, its hard to even tell the notes or chords he's playing. Bottom line is, you want your guitar tone to be unique and shapable, at the same time, no one will be happy if it's hurting your ears. GET THE EQ!!!

Any sound you want.

I bought this pedal to address a specific issue with live performance. I am able to get a great tone using essentially just my guitars and amp when playing by myself. However, when rehearsing or playing live my tone doesn't always cut through enough over the bass and drums and I have trouble hearing myself. Turning up the high and mid EQ pots on the amp(Laney VH100) beyond where they are set really takes away from the feel I want and can make everything sound really harsh so that wasn't an option. Placing the M-108 in the effect loop seems to have solved my problem. I keep the knobs on my amp the same and boost the upper mids very slightly and the difference is amazing. The feel that I like is preserved and just the right frequencies are being boosted to make my tone really stand out. There is no added harshness because the pedal is only bringing out what's already there. I haven't tried the pedal in front of the amp but I don't see a need to either. This pedal is definately capable of almost any sort of tone you can think of.

3 Band Killer

This is a sweet little pedal if you know how to work it right. When I first got it, I had absolutely no idea where to start dialing in tone. I'm not gonna lie, I pretty much spent using it for it's 'Radio' tone, which is pretty cool I think.

Here's your whats what if your having issues getting that tone you've been looking for (and by all means, if you know better, feel free to correct any mistakes I may make). The first selector is almost unnecessary at 36.w/e hz because bass frequencies (i.e. bass guitar, bass drums) only go as low as 41hz. But anywhere from 36 up to 80hz will effect the 'feel' of your tone. At 250hz you move out of your bass tones and into your 'mids' which controls the 'attack' of the notes sorta speak. I believe at about 4Khz you move into your 'Presence' which is a small range but has a huge impact on how dulll your tone sounds. And just so ya know, its not a huge range, so a lil bit will do ya. 8Khz on up is your treble frequencies and helps to give a nice clear tone and helps to define your notes better.

Volume and gain are self explanitory. So in short this pedal goes to places farther than you may ever have to go, but hey, that's not a bad thing either, am I right? I hope that with any mixing/tone configuration you've been having issues with like I did.
