A bit much mid range for my tastes

Great pedal, warm drive with a rich midrangey tone similar to a tubescreamer. Just not quite my style. I'm more of a Metal/Hard Rock guy and I need more of a scooped sound in my overdrives. If I do an A/B comparison in tone (not gain or volume) there is huge noticeable difference in the midrange so it doesn't quite suit my sound, but I think I'll keep it and play around with it some more.

But I am going to try a different pedal like the Boss SD-1 or OD-3, or maybe even the Wylde Overdrive.

All in all though, this thing does have a lot of punch and clarity. Great pedal for the money.

Probably the best OD pedal under $100

Well, MXR certainly did a much better job on this overdrive pedal than they did with the ZW-44 IMO. I had originally picked up a TS9 TubeScreamer not too long ago to tighten up my Mesa Boogie F-50 and give it a bit more scream for solos, and it did that, but I found it to be too tone coloring and lacking in the low end dept.

Then I was told to give this pedal a shot. It was far superior to the TS9 in every way possible. The overall sound is much clearer, more transparent, and has tighter bass response, making it both ideal for boosting amps or using it by itself for a nice, warm crunch. Watch out though, as this thing has a ton of gain for an OD, so use it sparingly, or be prepared to deal w/quite a bit of noise. Other than that though, this pedal rocks! It's my new favorite pedal
