Simple and straightforward, with just gain, tone, volume and an internal presence control, the Crunch Box is based on a multiple clipping architecture (the signal is clipped 3 times. In the lower gain range, the pedal's tone is very punchy and throaty. There are some great classic rock rhythm sounds to be found in there. As the gain is wound up, the Crunch Box develops a beautiful singing lead tone. Pinch harmonics are a breeze. The tone control has a wide sweep with a lot of top end. I have put in there more gain than anyone should need, but due to the way I handled the pre-overdrive tone shaping, the pedal always stays tight and each pickup retains its character, including single coils. The Crunch Box has a lot of volume up its sleeve. You will find though that 12 O'clock is close to 'neutral'.

An Internal Presence Control helps control the 'shape' of the pedal. By winding up the presence control, the lows won't feel as powerful, which some people might find to be a bit too much. Also, this creates the effect of giving the pedal even more top end. So with the new Crunch Box, there is no chance that the pedal will be too dark. The Internal Presence Control is very useful if you wish to match the Crunch Box to your amp because some amps can be a lot brighter/darker than others.

The best distortion box I've ever heard or owned. Top quality, great switch. More gain than I could ever need personally. Great sustain and lead tones. It's not cheap, but compared to other boutique distortions it is quite cheap for the sound and quality you get. Also have the blues overdrive pedal- it is super compatible with the crunch box. It's like they were made for each other. Oh- I should say they are both equally at home on the "dirty" channel on my bass rig as well.

I give a 4 on features because it only has 3 knobs: tone, gain, volume. 4.5 on quality because this thing is solid and doesn't move when you stomp on it and seems really strong. Overall, this pedal is fabulous. This pedal provides overdrive/distortion that is much greater than that of my amp. I play a Peavey Classic 50 and I was in love with the lead channel on my amp, until I got this pedal. The gain on this pedal ranges from a medium/hard overdrive to a mid/heavy distortion with a great mid-range. This pedal is meant to sound like a Marshall amp so it is expected to have a mid-range like that so I wouldn't imagine it so great for hardcore/metal type sounds. It works perfectly for me though. My pedalboard consists of a hardwire true bypass tuner, a way huge pork loin overdrive, a cusack screamer, the crunch box, and lastly, a boss dd-20 giga delay. This pedal works amazingly well with my Cusack Screamer(tubescreamer). I can have both engaged and no feedback, even with my tele w/ single coils. It also works great with my boss giga delay, the delays are not muffled whatsoever. I suggest not waiting to get this pedal, get it immediately. Next to my giga delay, the MI crunch box has been the best purchase for me as far as pedals go.
