I have it for 2 years but seldom used it until recently my other USB recording broke down. Now it has taken the place of my USB interface. If you want something to record track by track and don't want to spend much, go for this one. It has everything from drum machine, effects .. to computer recording. The only things it doesn't have are the MIDI, Drum Edit and Sequencer.

Black Box Killer Tone Killer Package

I have compared the Black Box against the Pocket Pd by Line 6.

Pocket pod sonds and feels like a toy to me. The tone of the Pod sounds like digital splatter to me when compared with the sounds in the Black box.

I like to be able to tweak the sound with knobs, and not with submenus as much.

You can assign functions to the footswitches and pedal.

Only if I needed instant access to multiple different sounds with a single stomp, would I consider the Pod.

I've owned the Black Box for about a year and a half. Updated to Reloaded when it became available. I used the Black Box a lot after I first got it. However, about six months later, I bought my son a Digi-Tech RP-250. Much better product. Although both sound great, the RP-250 is MUCH easier to adjust to get that perfect tone you are looking for. My recommendation is to by-pass the Black Box and go for a Digi-Tech (or perhaps a Line 6 POD) because, in my opinion, it is easier to make setting adjustments. All that said, the Black Box is a very sturdy piece of gear that, to me, sounds great.

I bought this about two years ago before the firmware update was released and although I've been aware that it's not top-quality, I've never been let down. The amps and effects are usable but I would never head into a studio with them. The included software is pretty straight forward to install and use, but I did get pretty frustrated with it as it will not recognize that the box is plugged in, even when it is. I have to either unplug it and plug it back in, or disconnect/reconnect it several times. Also a small but noticable drawback is that THERE'S NO ON/OFF SWITCH! This gets very annoying when you lay there at night and your room is neon blue because of the backlight. The drum beats are plain, boring, but serve their purpose. The mic input has enough gain to get by with an SM58. I use Nuendo and it recognizes it and records flawlessly, which is why I havn't thrown it out my window yet. At 2AM when I get that perfect verse for a song I'm writing, I'll put some headphones on, open up Nuendo and record them so I don't lose it by morning. That's really all I've needed it for. Although now that I want to get my home studio up and running I'm looking at some FireWire Interfaces such as the Presonus Firestudio and MOTU 8pre. Note: You can only record either the guitar input or mic input at a time, not simultaneously. You will hear both but effects/amps will only be applied to whichever input you have set in the properties window. On that note, this thing works if you just need to lay down some guitars, bass, piano, vocals, and even drums if you have a seperate mixer but if you want to do some serious recordings, save your 100 bucks for another SM57 or something useful. It's not a bad product at all, just depends on what you're looking for!

Well I got my Black Box reloaded 3 days ago and I'm really happy.... the amp's simulations are great, awesome effects, you can obtain any sound u possibly want. The only thing I wasnt too happy about is that even when they have 100 drum beats, most of them are trance or hip hop or dance, and only 10 of rock...but well nothing is perfect I recomend it, really cool.
