Line 6's Spider Valve 212 combo is one of the premiere lines in modeling tube amplifiers. This kind of rig gives you the best of both worlds: the killer range of Line 6's award-winning guitar amp and effects models, coupled with the warmth and performance of a tube amp. The company recently entered into a partnership with a true legend in tube amp design, Reinhold Bogner. Together they have designed Spider Valve, a world-class tube amp with the versatility of a Line 6 modeler.

Reinhold Bogner had been designing and building amplifiers long before leaving Germany in 1989. Moving to Los Angeles he quickly gained the trust of many influential players, including Steve Stevens, Dan Huff, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Landau, and Steve Vai, who sought out his skill at modifying and custom building their amps. Eddie Van Halen entrusted Reinhold to overhaul and revitalize Eddie's arsenal of amps. Eddie was pleased. Bogner Amplification was born.

To create the Spider Valve amps, Line 6's team of guitar-slinging engineers worked tirelessly with Reinhold. By tapping into his boutique design sensibilities, it was able to fully integrate its modeling front end into Bogner's world-class tube amp design, conjuring up the rich harmonics, subtle compression and signature attitude of a great vintage amplifier. The outcome of their work delivers an experience that is much more than the sum of its individual parts.

The Line 6 Spider Valve 212 consists of a complete Class AB tube amplifier fed by a digital front end, which houses all the magic of Line 6's amp and effect models. Make no mistake; these are not "marketing tubes." This is a real tube amp. 12AX7 pre-amp tubes, which are always working to provide the harmonic richness and compression of a great vintage tube amp, drive the phase splitter and 5881 power amp complement.

This Spider Valve guitar amp delivers 12 channels of amp modeling—combined with several flavors of built-in modulation, delay and reverb—driven by an all tube, all Bogner amplification design boasting 6L6 power tubes, 12AX7 preamp tubes and premium Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.

Spider Valve 212 truly offers the "best of both worlds"—affording you a tremendous range of Line 6 tone and effects with the vibe and stage-proven performance of a world class tube amp. We hope you enjoy playing these guitar amps as much as we enjoyed creating them.

When you plug into a Line 6 amplifier, you're plugging into a stockpile of celebrated tones worn-in by time, inspired by sounds made immortal by generations of players. You're also recognizing your power to create something brand new, completely unique and totally yours.

I have owned this amp only a short time and I like it alot so far. I am happy with the features that I have used (I have not even got around to using most of them yet). It sounds great. I plan on bying the FBV shortboard for it down the road. I consider myself a beginner with the guitar and even so, I could not stand the sound of my small practice amp. So I went to the guitar shop with a friend (he's played for 30 years) of mine and we both tried several amps and I liked this one the best. I chose it over many amps but the only other one I considered was fender hot rod deluxe. I do not regret it so far.

Terrible Successor...

I've never been a big fan of Line 6 because the majority of their amps always sounded too compressed, too digital and seemed to be designed with tons of "features" to compensate for the lack of quality in their products. The only Line 6 amp I ever thought was a little over decent was the original Spider Valve. It had a friendly user interface, the effects were quite good, the EQ was actually very responsive and the overall tone was superior to any solid state of the Spider series and even other amps. It did have its fair share of flaws, but it was one of the few products that I believe Line 6 actually did right. When I saw the MkII at Guitar Center recently, I thought that perhaps the guys at Line 6 might've given a decent amp more profound improvements so I eagerly set myself up to try it out only to find that this successor was a giant leap backwards. The tone was just absolutely terrible. I EQ'd the amp the way I always would, on clean and with gain but it didn't give me the same quality of tone I was expecting. I tried different approaches and nothing! Turning the knobs seemed to do little or nothing at all to shape the sterile, processed sound coming from the amp. Even though it was supposedly a valve amplifier, it sounded more digital like its Spider IV bretheren. Rather than continue to make a good sounding amp even better, the designers butchered it. Of course, hearing it is far greater than reading about it. Hopefully it was just some sort of defect I was messing with.

This is a truely good sounding amp. You'll never want a solid state amp again after playing this amp! The sound is warm and sweet. I mostly play a Les Paul with this amp and even clean it sounds really good. . .add the amp models and effects and you can do anything with it. Don't be fooled by the 40 watt power rating . . .it is plenty loud. It's much louder than my friend's 100w solid state Peavey. If you need more volume than it has, chances are you'll be micing it anyway. It has an XLR direct out w/ grd lift and a 1/4" pre amp out as well as a 1/4" power amp input if you want to bypass the pre amp. There is also a Line6 (cat5) foot controller connection. This amp is easy to program (much easier than a vox valve for instance). Just select an amp model (if desired) and then select the effects. The reverb and tone controls are rotory knobs that are straight forward to use.
