The Line 6 Spider III 15 Guitar Combo Amplifier delivers detailed amp models based on some of the greatest guitar sounds ever created. To keep these sounds authentic, Line 6 kidnapped some of the world's most notorious rock stars to dial in each amp model, including 311, Thursday, Lacuna Coil, Hawthorne Heights, Slipknot, Ash, Albert Lee, Athlete, John 5, and many more! Now you can rule the stage using the Insane model with its truly massive gain or explore your sensitive side in the studio with the Clean model. It's all up to you.

Amp Models:
Clean: Red LED - Select this Amp Model and adjust the tone controls to get crisp, amazing clean sounds, great warm jazz tones, and all the high-end shimmer you'll need with a generous amount of bottom end.

Crunch: Red LED - This sound was crafted during Line 6's studies of the '68 Marshall Plexi 50 Watt*. This type of Marshall amp was used by a number of early metal bands. Crunch provides a wider range of tone control settings than the original Marshall amp had.

Metal: Red LED - This Amp Model is based on the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier*. Use this Amp Model to get a tight and punchy, high gain Metal sound.

Insane: Red LED - This model is Line 6's "dialed in for shredding" version based on the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier* red channel. It combines the intensity and impact of Metal Red, but delivers more midrange and teeth for that bone-crushing, brain-piercing insane grind.

Effects:
A great amp isn't the only part of a great guitar sound. With Smart Control FX, an exclusive Line 6 feature that automatically dials in different effect parameters, you spend more time playing and less time tweaking. Simply find the effect that you want, turn the knob to your desired intensity, and you're done. You can even use multiple effects at the same time if you wanna get really crazy.

Effects Models (Up to 2 effects simultaneous)
Phaser
Chorus/Flanger
Tremolo
Sweep Echo
Tape Echo
Reverb

Too digital of a sound, very hollow, with no soul.

My roommate has one of these Spider III's, and I've used it many times and hear it every day when we jam. The amp, especially for the price, has great features. These amps are popular with new guitarists, and for good reason. They can keep a new player entertained for months. Many different effect settings and programmable memory. Also, tap delay and echo controls, for cool sounding trick sounds. However, all of this soon grows bothersome as you get past all the glitz and realize that this amp is masquerading with the best of them. The actual Insane-setting distortion is far too thin and digital sounding to be anything than a bedroom practice amp. Turn up the volume, and it only gets thinner and more hollow. Also, the wiring is poor on these amps, and there are random electrical glitches. When rotating the volume knob, even at very low levels, sometimes the volume will shoot up to near maximum, and of course, ear-shattering feedback will follow. Overall, for the money, the value is phenomenal, however don't expect miracles. All of those "artist inspired tube-amp sounds" all sound the same; digital and indistinguishable.

This is a great amp i'v had it for about 4 months and its awesome. I love the Insane channel and if you can't get a clean sound when you switch channels the knobs are turned on even if they're all the way down so you have to turn the effects and echo knobs up and then down and there should be a clean sound. But anyways it is a great amp. I really recommend this amp.

Great Amp for the Money

I've had a Spider II 30 watt amp for a couple of years and really like it. Tons of good sounding volume for the money. I recently bought this Spider III 15 Watt model -- couldn't pass it up at the price. I don't think you can get more amp for the money. Many reviews reference presets, effects, etc. The amp really is very easy to use once you get used to it -- pick your amp style, adjust the effects (or eliminate them), dial in your tone, and play. If you hit on a sound that you want to be able to use again, save it to the preset. It's also easy to restore the original presets if you want to. I got this amp to use when fellow musicians or bandmembers come over to practice or jam. It sounds great, and the price was right. I love it.

This is a computer-controlled setup. So knobs don't work in the old familiar ways.

If you don't save your settings, when you return to a channel, e.g., "Clean," then the settings that were stredd there are recalled. That's the way a preset is supposed to work. If you want to modify the factory settings, you have to dial them in the way you want and SAVE them in a preset before switching. If you switch before you save, you lose those settings. But that's the way it has to work if it's to be a functioning preset -- otherwise when you were on that preset and changed a setting the old preset would be lost instead, and that makes no sense.

The knobs operate in a new way also because their settings are determined by the preset, and unless they put a motor in each knob to turn the indicator to the preset value, the knob usually won't be in sync with the actual setting. The standard way that devices like this sync up the knob position with the actual setting is by moving the knob so it passes through its preset position. When that happens, the pointer is aligned with the internal setting. This is the same standard non-motorized knob-based microprocessor control operation as implemented throughout the industry. But it is a little bizarre until you realize what's going on.

I have two of these on order to use at guitar lessons, one for me and one for my students. I'm bettin' that the students are gonna love it.
