Versitile !!!!!

I love this Line 6 Pod xt pro. So many sounds. Even some of the stock patches sound good. I play anything from hendrix to Killswitch and this can do it. It is not Dead Acurate. But for the plethera of sounds. Its close enough. The long board foot pedal is a must have for the stage. Probably 65% of the effects are awesome and totally useable. In my opinion it is the "best" non-tube digital sound bank to have at your disposal !!! Try it.

Great for Recording, but NOT Great Live

If you're a guitarist looking for a device that will streamline your HOME RECORDING set up, this is an excellent place to start. Line 6 is truly at the forefront of modeling technology. While the drive/distortion effects are probably the weakest of the algorithms available, the amp/speaker simulation and other modeled effects are dead on. I own a vintage 1965 Vox AC-30TB and use the modeled over-driven 1963 Vox AC-30TB patch on the unit through my old amp! The modeled TS-9 is also a dead-ringer for the real thing. The vintage delays and other effects are also spectacular.

Here's the rub though--it's limitations come through in LIVE applications. For one thing, the 4 effect block maximum seems strangely limited given the price point (e.g., the Boss GT-Pro which is similarly priced allows up to 10 or more effects at a time). Also, the latency between patch changes is simply unacceptable for a unit this advanced...and the failure for trail-offs on delays and reverbs between patch changes is also unacceptable. My last beef is why Line 6 didn't include a digital deal with mod feature (need to preserve a market for the DL-4?).

On the balance, it's a great sounding unit, but not the greatest device to have with you on stage.

Best piece of gear I've owned.

Ive been using one of these for the past 2 or so years. I've installed the model packs. Great deal! Previously I have owned a 5150, Rocktron voodoo valve, Digitech 2120 (junk), Boss GX700, Berhinger V-Amp, Vox Tonelab and a few other amps and preamps I have forgotten. This thing SLAYS!! I run it into a Marshall EL34 50/50 tube power amp then into a GenzBenz Gflex 2x12 cab. I have an unlimited array of GREAT tones and effects at my disposal. I know a lot of that is due to the tube poweramp. I love tubes and how they respond/sound live. You cant get away from that. I love real amps, dont get me wrong, but judge this thing with your EARS not your prejudices. I can't take 8 amp heads and 24 pedals to a gig, but I can with this thing. It sounds great and is Hella versatile. What more do you need? In the studio the re-amping feature is so easy, and truth be told really fun to play around with. You can create sick textures and complex tones using this feature. I NEED to get a second one in my rack so I can recreate this live.

All In One Preamp for the Pos

This preamp contains several models that accurately reproduce classic amp tones to the T. This alone makes it worth the price. The IO options are complete and flexible. The onboard effects are OK, however the stomp boxes are somewhat limited. Well worth the price for the excellent tone.

Line 6 has really done it with this one. I was instantly a better sounding guitarist witch made me a better player also. At first I was afraid it would be just another digital effect but man was I suprised. Any amp can sound great with the pod xt pro as a pre amp. Line 6 Thank you for making my recordings and live playing so much easier to sound great.
