Guitar-Optimized Recording
The unique Riff Recorder lets you set the tempo and even start recording from your guitar so you never have to put it down. It will even automatically create tracks as you play so you can record multiple takes or layer parts without a pause.
Mix Effects
The 7 mix effects per track are great for sweetening up the sound of most anything you might record with the GuitarPort hardware, even bass or a keyboard. And just like the virtual guitar rig, the included mixing effects are easy to operate. So you get great studio-quality sounds without the typical computer studio complication.
Collect and Combine Your Ideas
The Riff List holds the ideas you've recorded. Double-click a Riff in the list to open it for more recording, or to fine-tune your mix. Drag Riffs to the Song Bar to string them together. Then MIX a file to disk, and burn it with your CD software!
GuitarPort RiffTracker includes the award-winning GuitarPort hardware. This was probably the best $190 I've spent in a while. The only downside is that you need to download the installer v3.70 from the line6 website if you're using Windows Vista. Other than that, the guitar port and riffworks is great.

I've played guitar for over 20 years. I just purchased this amazing little piece of equipment and I am simply amazed. You plug your guitar into the GuitarPort via standard 1/4" instrument cable. Then, after installing the software on your PC, plug the GuitarPort into the PC using a standard USB cord (supplied). That's it. The amp and effect models are dead on accurate and sound amazing. Plug in a set of headphones (1/8" female output in the GuitarPort) and do your thing. Sounds great! If you have multi-track recording software, you can record directly into it using this as well. You can search a massive tone library for specific songs or guitarists and in 5 seconds, you're good to go. $200 is a little pricey, but IMHO, it's totally worth every cent. If mine were to break, I would buy one the next day. Oh! Which brings a good point... It is high impact plastic and some metal. It will probably survive a drop or two, but don't expect to abuse it. But, being tethered to a computer, I don't know how much abuse it would see anyway. As for those who complained about activating or registering the software... I had no troubles. I found you don't even have to register it if you don't want and it works just fine.

I have had this product for almost 2 years now the first year was a battle with the line 6 company just trying to get it to activate. Its been frustration and anger trying to make this work. I keep telling myself try again but it never seems to work correctly . Just tonite I tryed to record a friend and I(someone I havent played with in over a year) And guess what it diddnt work so 3 Hours of playing was lost in the typical line 6n way. Thank You line 6 If you want to record guitar and vocals buy a tape recorder before this product.

I got this last year around cristmas time and I wasnt too happy about it. The amp models and stuff were cool but the hardware kept getting disconnected when there was no clear reason for it. Rifftracker is cool I guess, but if you do it riff by riff there is a little tiny bit of skip because the two tracks are not totally syncronized. I am going to get the boss micro br which i have heard wonders about.

I must say that I agree with the gentleman above who said that getting this stuff registered and getting the licenses straightened out was a pain. I'm still not sure how I did it. But somehow I got the Line 6 monkey to work.
That being said, I was immediately impressed with the preset tones that come with Toneworks, all of which are completely tweakable, with plently of amp models, cab models, and effects to choose from. And you can purchase more models, effects, etc.. online. The thing that impressed me the most was the Tonelocker. Now that thing is BAD!! You can type in any band or any guitarist and get a list of some of their most famous songs broken down into separate parts such as "solo", "bridge", "acoustic chorus", etc... and just click on whichever tone you want.... so if you want Angus Young's rhythm tone, click on it, and it's yours. Yuu want some Satch or some David Gilmour sounds for your leads? Just type in the name and click on which one of their tones you want. I have never been able to nail Slash's tone until I got this program. I can make my Seymour Duncans moan and sing just like Slash now, and the tones don't sound digitized or cold. Line 6 did a great job with these preset tones. I can't wait to see how they sound through some decent speakers and not just through headphones.
The recorder is easy to use, didn't take me long to figure it out. Good for just looping a rhythm track and soloing away for hours. The help file for it is short and to the point.
Overall, these programs are exactly what I was looking for.
Excellent job Line 6. YOu guys are straight-up tone magicians.
