The Collection Classical Guitar from Canadian guitar maker La Patrie has a solid cedar top. Also features solid Indian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck with arosewood fretboard, rosewood bridge with a compensated saddle, 2-tone gold and black "lyra" style tuner with buttons, and a semi-gloss satin finish.

The Collection guitar combines Indian rosewood back and sides—in this case the back is solid rosewood—with a luthier-grade solid cedar top and high gloss lacquer finish. Built by our most experienced luthiers in the Godin acoustic studio, this La Patrie guitar has a beautifully understated appearance that's perfectly complimented by the Collection's exquisite sound and feel.

800 Year Old Trees
All La Patrie guitars feature solid cedar tops. The wood used in these tops can be found only in cedar trees that have an average age of about 800 years. The tight, straight grain in this wood makes it strong in the direction of the string tension while at the same time flexible across the grain lines. It is this combination of rigidity and flexibility that give the top its resonance. The vibration of the guitar top is the most crucial element of the sound.

Lacquer Finish
LaPatrie guitars are finished with a special lacquer formula. This finish is light enough to allow the wood to breath and vibrate freely. The tops resonating capacity actually improves as the guitar is played over an extended period of time. This gradual improvement in the response of the top is often referred to as "aging". Poly finishes inhibit top vibration and are therefore never used on LaPatrie guitars. Many other guitars use a thick plastic finish that smothers top vibration and prevents the benefits of aging.

Classics that are comfortable to play
Classical guitars of the past have typically been made with thick neck dimensions, while this promoted a certain amount of neck stability, it often made certain playing aspects difficult to execute. It is for this reason that special attention was directed to the neck design of the LaPatrie guitars. Neck width and string spacing conform to classical standards, but a new truss rod system allows the profile of the neck to be reduced producing a neck of extraordinary comfort, while increasing stability. The LaPatrie necks are carved from Honduras mahogany. All LaPatrie models feature a rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

Solid guitar :-P

This was my second guitar. I spent quite a bit of time deciding b/w this and another model (can't remember for my life what it was) but ultimately went with this because of the beautiful sound. Its sound is not as deep as I thought I would have wanted, but I found the sound bright and really beautiful. When I first got this guitar, I was still early in my training and like any good guitar, it forced me to step up my playing to another level because you could hear my beginner mistakes more clearly.

If you are serious about learning to play the guitar and getting very good or even if have been playing for some time and are looking to invest in a quality instrument that won't bust your bank too much, this is an excellent choice.

If you're interested in a modern nylon string, solid wood guitar, you're not gonna beat this deal. The guitar plays and sounds great. The tone is more to my liking than my hand made in Spain classical (which has not aged well - the action crept up and up over the years). It has a very "solid" tone with a firm bass response. The woods are beautiful. The appointments leave a bit to be desired (painted headstock, white plastic tuners, you can see where ends of the binding meet). The action is great (with room to adjust). The intonation is perfect. No fret buzz. The tuners are VERY smooth. This guitar has a truss rod which may turn off a traditionalist but turns me on. Like I said earlier, I lost my last classical to the arid California climate and I'm not about see that happen again (hopefully). Also, I don't want to run a humidifier 24/7, 300 days a year. Very satisfied!
