The L.R. Baggs Core 1 Acoustic Reference Amplifier is a 200-watt, 2 channel acoustic guitar combo amp that blends a cutting edge loudspeaker, analog and digital circuit technology and industrial design. The Core 1 amp redefines the way acoustic guitar and vocals should be amplified.

At the heart of the Core 1 amplifier is L.R. Baggs' BMR Sound Radiation Technology, a patented loudspeaker that creates and radiates sound in a fundamentally different and better way than the norm. The brainchild of eminent speaker designer Dr. Graham Bank, it was specifically adapted for acoustic guitar in collaboration with L.R. Baggs engineers.

Exclusive to L.R. Baggs, this 7-1/2" diameter flat honeycomb diaphragm speaker employs a single 2" voice coil to generate a 140-degree wide full range conical sound field with a clean SPL of 108 dB. As all frequencies are generated by one flat diaphragm, there are no crossovers or time distortions to smear and muddy the sound. Harmonics align naturally with fundamentals, so clarity and detail are breathtaking but without the normal harshness or annoying directionality of a multi driver system.

More like a window than a speaker, the Core 1 amp's sound seamlessly fills every corner of the room and effortlessly envelops the listener with warm, inviting crystal clarity as it faithfully traces every nuance of your guitar. Best of all, the ultra wide dispersion solves one of the biggest problems of amplified acoustic guitars: it allows the musician, band and the audience to hear the same thing.

Building on the famed Para DI, the Radius One preamp forgoes any OP Amps and employs 100% discrete circuitry in an innovative configuration resulting in fidelity and performance that places it with the world's finest mic preamps. L.R. Baggs also avoided the generic digital effects chip common to most acoustic amps and created a specially modified spring reverb and driver circuit for some of the sweetest reverb you've ever heard.

The power amplifier is a European state-of-the-art 200-Watt digital hi-fi amplifier: warm, transparent, quiet and with plenty of power to trace the demanding dynamics of the acoustic guitar. A 4-band EQ with tunable low-mid and high-mid bands based on the L.R. Baggs Para DI EQ plus a Garrett Null notch filter to easily manage feedback means you've got all the tools you need to get great amplified sound from your acoustic guitar.

Wrap all this technology up in a beautiful and durable, lightweight, molded enclosure with natural wood sides and an innovative handle and you've got a true technological tour-de-force.

Ok, but underwhelmed

I like the look of this amp, and it's evident that some thought went into it's design. However, it just doesn't have the guts to keep up with a country band on stage, even pumped through a good PA. I find myself playing hard to cut through, and all of the acoustic-ness is lost. It's better in a solo setting, but it's only ok, and doesn't have the clarity and volume of the Fishman I sold to get it. I'm probably going to keep it as an emergency backup and get another Fishman.

It sounded good at first . . .

The first amp I received made an annoying electronic noise that was independent of volume. I returned it and the second unit worked fine for a while, sounding very nice, but then it started buzzing with very little bass dialed in. I couldn't get it to produce a clean full sound except at very low volumes which is simply not practical when playing with other amplified instruments. After two units inside of four months, I hope to be able to return it for a refund or trade it for another brand. I'm very disappointed as I had high expectations for it.

Baggs has come up with a winner here. Acoustic guitars sound natural, just "bigger"....Mandolins are tough to amplify and get a natural tone...The Core 1 coupled with the quality "stick-on" acoustic pickup I'm currently using produces a nice natural and uncolored tone. The amp is ultra-quiet (soild-state) and has enough inputs and controls to keep an audiophile happy. What's really useful is the two mid-range controls which help "dial-in" natural tone and eliminates un-tasteful frequencies that tend to make an instruments tone sound too thin or fat. It's a little pricey, but I believe this product is state of the art and at 28 pounds it's easy to transport around. The fitted cover is made of heavy material to protect it during normal transports. Remember, this is not a electric guitar amp. It was designed specifically for acoustic instrument amplification.

This is not a 200W Amp!!!!!

Dont let this info fool you, but this is not a 200W amp. There is a 200W amplifier inside it, but it does not put out 200W of power. Because of the poor speaker efficiency in the new technology it actual only equates to an 80-100W output amp.

I finally got one, after months and months of waiting. Had to return it to the manufacturer cause there was a vibration buzz coming from it. Then I finally got it back and its not loud enough.

I have been using it with my band (clean/folk rock) and it just doesnt cut it in rehearsal, so I am most likely going to return it.

It works great at small venues when I play solo acoustic, but if you are looking for something compact and loud, like I am, this will not work for you.
