The Twintone II 50W 1x12 Combo Amp is all about tone. Its clean sounds are rich and well defined. Its Accutronics long-can reverb is bright, open, and generously deep. An unusual feature is dual inputs-normal and bright clean. The latter is designed for use with humbucking pickups and automatically trims excessive mids to create a balanced, very pure clean tone. The overdrive channel has dual gain controls and offers everything from clean with edge, to power crunch, and on to all-out pure saturation with infinite sustain. Special features include a solo/rhythm facility with a potentiometer on the back for setting a rhythm level, so you can footswitch between rhythm level and full volume. Another cool feature is a 0, 25, or 50W power soak so you select the appropriate power level and sound loud without being loud. A serial effects loop, recording out, and headphone output enhance this Twintone's versatility.

Great gigging amp

I have owned the Twintone for about 5 years now and am overall very happy with it. The clean sound is terrific and the overdrive is really cool although I still can't seem to not use my Tube Screamer. I did have some initial issues with the power tubes distorting as one reviewer mentioned. I switched to Ruby tubes, which I use in all my other amps, and have not had a problem for about 2years (knock on wood). If you want a versatile amp that goes from rehearsal to small clubs, this is a great choice. I gig out twice a month as well as rehearse regularly and it has been reliable. It is plenty loud, just ask my drummer!

Bought this amp bout a year ago. It started getting a distorted sound in about a month or so. They were nice on the phone and sent me new tubes. two months later those went. they sent tubes again. 2 months later those went. they sent me more tbes and a transformer. Finnaly I brought it to my repair guy who claims it's not made as road worthy as they say. It has some sort of staples holding things on to the circut board.. I've been on the phone with them a whole lot. now i can't seam to get em. This is an expencive amp to have this kind ot trouble right out of the gate. Beware.

Koch Twintone - Nothing Like It

I have been playing for over 40 years and I have tried a wide variety of tube amps over the years. The Twintone is fat, bright, very present and you can dial in any degree of overdrive desired. Currently, I play a strat and I run the combo at 25 watts with the volume on 8 and the gain on 2. The tone is incomparable to any other amp I have tried. It seemingly exaggerates the pickup tones of the strat, bringing out a sharp distinction between pickup selections. What can I say. I love this amp! I intend to buy the 20w combo next (when I can afford it).

Koch Twintone Most Versatile

I have a small arsenal of guitar amplifiers, however over the last three years my Koch Twintone along with the Koch TS-112 extension enclosure has become my standard rig for both live and studio gigs.

The Koch Twintone is the most versatile tube amplifier I have ever used. The amp has the most amazing clean sound. The drive channel will crank anywhere between a subtle edge into a tight distortion. The tone controls offer a wide dynamic range, yet are easy to dial in for a quick great sound. The Accutronics reverb delivers the sweetest chimes and rings. The standard Jenson speaker is matched really well to this combo and also to the TS-112 enclosure. Together they make a nice small stack.

The Koch Twintone is standard 50W at 8-ohms. A built-in power soak drops the power to 25W and it is in this mode you can find those screaming tones associated with overdriven small vintage tube amps. It’s that tone we all hear in our head but often cannot achieve.

As far as construction, the stuff is built like a bomb shelter. The only drawback here is weight. Relative to its size, the Koch is the heaviest amp in my combo collection. Regardless, I’m secure in knowing if banged around on the road it will not break into particles. Little things like the feel of the front panel controls and the obvious quality of knobs, handle, rubber feet and even the soft covers give me confidence Koch is designed by someone who understands both the sound performance requirements and the reliability demands of the road.

So there you have it. One guy's experience with this up and coming amplifier.
