Koch got tone!

I have a couple THD hot plates (one for my Marshall JVM and one for my Vox AC30) and this Koch Loadbox for my Mesa markV works WAY better than either THD. The tone stays "right" at any setting from 2% up (into my Egnator 2x12 cab). The only thing I don't like about it is the need to unplug/replug when changing power settings... but that means I might not be tempted to change level just because. Build quality is excellent, but the look and graphics are "no frills". The line out works as advertised and I really appreciate the real isolation on that connection. Great product that does exactly what it claims!!!

I have always wanted some kind of "Power Attenuator" (hot plate, power brake, load box, w/e) because i could barely get my amp (marshall dsl 50) above 2 with out over powering the system and other players at my church (yep dsl at church). so i was lacking that full cranked up tube sound. this thing solved that problem and others!

The reduced volume while keep cranked sound is great. I can now practice in my bed room and a reasonable vol and have the cranked sound. But of course the thd hot plate can do that too and for a lot less.

The reason why I prefer this units is its other features like di line out, multi cab, direct line out,and voicing. If your a marshall guy you'll know the dsl does not have a line out. This make it some what difficult for recording and pa systems. the load box fixed that problem. i now run my amp into the churches pa system. this eliminate the me having to haul my cab back and forth to church.

when koch says they dont mess with your tone they mean it. my amp running through the pa sounds now sounds great. almost like my cab. its lacking in definition bu thats the speakers we have. if we had a high quality system i have no doubt it sound just like my 1960a cab. the voicing feature is also very functional. does just like the instructions say.

the head phones feature is sub par at best (why it gets 4.5) . it seems more like an after thought.

direct outs work as advertised. does not affect tone!

haven't tried the multi cab.

over all rating a 4.5. koch load box does everything i want it to and more. of your a guy who doesnt need all the extra features than the thd hot plate maybe be all you need. but if you looking for something with a little extra versatility this is it.

Doesn't come with a powercord for the fan, but it doesn't need one. Stays cold all day long. Very well built and doesn't change your tone at all like the hotplate or others. Only additional feature I would want is a second input to run more than one amp in and use it as a spliter as well! If you care about tone get this. If you just want to be loud get the hotplate and save a few bucks.
