Fuzz Head happy!

Wow! First and foremost, this pedal sounds amazing! I thought I was looking for a bone-crunching powerful fuzz that had a 90's grunge sound, which this isn't, its so much more! IT is an amazing fuzz that is VERY responsive to your picking attack. Play soft and its clean, play harder and it starts to break up more and more. Only complaints are: tone control is a fingernail knob located on the circuit board within the chassis of the component.. why? The amount of gain for the sweep of the fuzz knob is also controlled with a small rotary knob within the unit.. Truth is that I took apart the unit to adjust the tone and gain, and once I had it set I haven't wanted to change it since.. But besides this, you won't find a cleaner, more percussive fuzz out there. I can get buzz saw nasty, but its just so much more musical in the silicone mode with the gain turned down.. total jimi with the neck pickup on a strat! Amazing fuzz distortion! I have a huge china closet full of guitar pedals with two shelves dedicated to distortion and overdrive pedals.. this one hasn't left my pedalboard yet.. don't think it ever will.

This is best fuzz out there, period. Here's why: because that little silver toggle switch below the fuzz dial gives you two different kinda fuzzes with a simple flick. The silicon based fuzz is the vintage sound, like a hendrix fuzz face, while the germanium based fuzz gives you that "i just drank a fifth of jack, drove home in my red corvette, totaled it, blacked out and suffocated on my own vomit" kind of modern rock'n'roll sound. Both are extremely clean, and when used with the keeley compressor it simply slaps you and people next door straight in the face. Buy this pedal if you have an idea of the fuzz sound you're looking for but don't know how to get it, just look around, it's in there....

Rarely do I give out 10s, but some of Robert Keeleys products are the exception. This Fuzz is more like an OD/Fuzz than hardcore splat and spit. But it is also a very versatile Fuzz which cleans up well with the volume knob on guitar. It doesn't mind if it is not first in line and can run behind a buffer. For a Fuzz it plays well with others, and hitting it with another OD will make it sing endlessly. It will do Jazz to rock and all in between, giving you a sweet natural lead tone. Really! This Fuzz will not color your tone, is very transparent, and can be adjusted internally if you need it different then it is set at. I play a Strat and this Fuzz has the tone I need, like a very smooth FuzzFace, but better!

This is for the Keeley fuzz head. My set up is Guild Star fire IV with flat wound heavy-gauge strings into the fuzz head into Keeley compression into full tone Clyde Wah (which I don't recommend using with the fuzz- kind of screechy) into a peavey bandit with tube simulation.
The fuzz head has the silicon diodes to germanium transistor switch. The silicon diodes sound more modern, punchier volume output, a little bit better sustain. The germanium gets that classic 60s distortion.
This pedal has the fuzz and the overdrive yes. But the real magic is when you turn down your guitar to mid or low volume. When you pick lightly there will be a clear warm tone, but when you start to really bang on the strings the distortion kicks in. Great for a mature player who is aware of dynamics.
I haven't had the fuzz head long, but I’ve had the Keeley compression for a while and they never cut out or give me any trouble. Quality craftsmanship. Reliability great for live playing and with the true-bypass you can use Keeley in the studio too.
