This Xiphos has a thin, flat neck with a fretboard that is extended to 27 frets for extra high-end sweep-picking and furious riffage. The DiMarzio Air Norton humbucker in the neck position is warm-sounding, very well balanced, and has the same unique tonal characteristics as the original. Its combination of medium output and harmonic bite are very effective for single-note soloing as well as chords. The DiMarzio D Activator bridge humbucker is loud yet clean, with rich harmonics. It responds instantly to hard or light pick attack. The Double-locking Edge III allows radical effects and sonic chaos with total tuning stability. The new Edge III is similar in construction and feel to the original Edge locking trem; however, it also has lower profile fine-tuners inspired by the Lo-PRO Edge and massive new-design saddles.

Pretty nice. Except for the Edge III

I bought this guitar hoping it would be one in which to end my search for my perfect metal tone. It did in terms of tone. However the Edge III is the only thing preventing it from being spot on. The guitar does have some balance issues if you aren't used to the neck diving, but it was easy to get used to. It plays great, has superb lead and rhythm tones. I would naturally recommend this guitar, but i have been too frustrated with the Edge to really encourage it. Other than that, really, a great guitar.

Xiphos 27 Fret

I bought this Xiphos-27-fret guitar It arrived yesterday.

Good things about Xiphos 27 fret: Wizard 2 neck = A+ 27 frets = A+ Body & Style = A+

Bad Things about Xiphos 27 fret: Edge III does not stay in tune Pickups are not good for slow heavy riffs

I'm replacing the Edge III with an Original Floyd Rose which will require digging a bigger hole in the body of the guitar. I'm replacing the Pickups with active EMGs or Blackouts. With these modifications, the guitar becomes A or A+. The stock version of this guitar is C+.

Ibanez Xiphos XPT-700-XH-GSF great guitar

I bought this guitar about 2 months ago. From all the guitars I have played in the past 17 years this is my favorite. I don't have huge hands so reaching the high frets was always kind of problematic for me. This Xiphos provides insane access to the higher frets. I play a lot of traditional style metal like Priest, Ozzy but also newer Prog-rock/metal like Symhpony X/Dream Theater. For this type of music it's just perfect in my opinion. Some people claim the edge 3 tremolo sucks - I can't confirm this at all. It holds the tuning perfectly for me. The action is very low as mentioned before. Also makes sweep picking significantly easier than on most of my other guitars. The balancing indeed is an issue. But I only subtracted half a point for that because it can easily be fixed by offsetting the strap fixation points. I mostly play sitting down anyway so the balancing doesn't matter at all to me.

This is the third and easily the best Xiphos i've owned. i own about 13 Ibanez guitars, and this is easily my favorite...the sound, speed, and looks of this guitar make it an excellent guitar on the road, or for any learning musician. great guitar, if you've got the money, this would be the guitar to get.

Ehh, this review is difficult to write. On one hand, you have the fast-as-hell neck with beautiful low action. You have a beyond wicked look with the body shape, and the sound kills. Then why the 3 rating for features? In my personal experience, the instrument must be BALANCED. With the Xiphos strapped on, as soon as you let go of the neck, the whole thing takes a dive. What this translates to is constantly flexing your fretting arm while playing, which is a real pain when you have to concentrate on performing. So, for the rookies out there, many of these evil-shaped guitars have serious balance issues, and I recommend strapping one on first before buying!
