TS9 - A Modern OD pedal

Let's be honest here - I'm reading a lot of reviews that this pedal gives SRV tone and can push awesome blues guitar sound. While it may be true that you can, you really start losing much ability to adjust at that point. For an SRV-like tone, I have my drive at MAYBE the lowest 2 settings, Level cranked and my tone at around 4-6 O'Clock. It doesn't have a lot of versatility as a blues pedal, because your tone and level are cranked, and you really don't use a lot of the drive to achieve a classic blues tone. If you want that bluesey tone, look at a TS808. THAT is a blues pedal, and the HW edition has the most versatility. Where the tone is cranked on this puppy, is where the tone on the 808HW starts. If you want classic blues tone, check that pedal out.

That being said, when I bought this pedal, I wasn't really looking for a classic OD pedal, I just wanted a "boost" pedal, or a modern style overdrive. Really, I just wanted to beef up my tone in front of my X3 Live. I have a few great tones that I've perfected, but the drives and comps in the POD don't seem to cooperate with my "beefy" needs. I took my POD to a local store and tried 3 other pedals out with it, an OCD, an MXR Boost, and a Katana. This came out on top for the tone I wanted, and I picked this up right away. What I liked about it was that it gave a bit of a volume boost, while giving a TOUCH of drive, but I could totally shape my entire tone with a touch of that tone knob. It is a wonderful tone, and I am really happy with the way that it turned out. This pedal sounds great, and will likely sit in front of my POD for years to come. While it is a little pricey (I almost paid full retail on it) It definitely gets the job done, and is a great sounding MODERN blues/rock pedal

this is probably the 3rd time I've had one of these and each time I sell it,later I have regrets. this time I'm not selling it.... I put this in front of my peavey classic 50 2x12 on my overdrive distortion channel, mainly for solo boost and everytime I use it,it definetly has a nice round tone to my leads. very legato friendly and has great attack when picking every note. there is a reason why Mr.SRV himself was using it! the Boss SD-1 came close to what I want, but the TS-9 is my first choice for my lead work in the front overdrive/distortion of my Peavey Classic 50 2x12(great amp by the way) this is industry standard guys! buy it,use it wisely where its needed.

This is a hot little box. Great when used all alone for everything from warm bluesy wanks, to hot punk riffs. Also great when paired with a higher gain distortion to send you over the top. I've had a few probelms with keeping in working condition for the years, but nothing i couldn't fix myself. A great pedal that won't suck away your tone, but compliment it.

The tube screamer is a classic pedal. This pedal in front of a tube amp sings. If you set the level to 10, the Overdrive to 1 or 2 and push your amp a little bit you can get great SRV tones with a Strat. This pedal is a must for anyone that loves great tone. No matter what style you play.

Ideal for a single channel amp

This is an industry standard for a reason. It's warm, it doesn't color your amp's tone, and it just really gets the job done. Its main weakness is its lack of versatility. The tone control doesn't really give you much latitude to shape the frequency of the tone unlike it's half-price counterpart the Boss DS1. The drive control just barely goes into moderate distortion, although it gives adequate sustain. The ideal use for this is the firt distortion stage in a single channel tube amp. I run this through my Fender Blues Junior to get a light cruch and THAT'S where this baby shines. It's perfect for that. If you have a tube amp with a drive channel, use that for light crucnh and get a heavier distortion instead. You'll have much more flexibility if you switch styles. Other than that and being a little pricey, it's a solid choice with great tone.
