A regal name in distortion pedals, the Tube King returns to the Ibanez lineup. While the name and purpose of the Ibanez distortion pedal is the same as the original '90s models, this version of Tube King, the TK999HT, differs from its two predecessors in that it features internal high voltage DC circuitry instead of previous "starved plate" low voltage circuitry. Ibanez says that makes a significant difference.

With the TK999HT the 12AX7 gets normal DC high voltage, allowing total linear operation of the tube. It works just like a tube preamp because it effectively is one! The result is that the TK999HT distortion pedal makes any solid-state amp sound like a tube amp. The distortion is massive yet tight.

Ibanez TK999HT Tube King High Voltage Tube Distortion Guitar Pedal Features:

  • Genuine High Voltage Tube Distortion Pedal
  • 12AX7 Tube
  • 3-Band Active EQ plus Presence Switch for Exacting Tone Control

WHY BUY SOLID STATE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A TUBE?

I haven't bothered replacing tubes or capacitors, I have seen no need. That's why you do the research and buy what you need. Yes it is a metal pedal, but I was blown away by the warmth and response by rolling back the gain and punching up the mids. I was in seventies heaven. So it does all the ages as well as a magnificant metal pedal. I just wish there was a two switch model.

Great with a few small mods

This pedal is designed for the heavy metal player. It even says so in the manual. That said, if you are a true connoisseur of warmth, clarity and tone, even a quality 12AX7 will be too hot and shrill for you. Sub a 5751 (30 percent less gain) and you will be amazed. Throw the junk stock tube away or give it to an inexperienced tone deaf friend. It will come alive with thickness, openness and plenty of headroom with still plenty of distortion w/a 5751. It's not a real tube player's pedal until you do this!

More distortion than needed

I play melodic death metal. This pedal is clear and thick. Too much mids, however. I had to take the pedal apart and replace a few caps to get the exact tone I was looking for( I play a deven string so I pretty much have to do this with everything). I found the exact tone I was looking for after this. Upon taking it apart I noticed the quality parts used to make the pedal. Its comes with a ruby tube 12ax7 ss reissue IIRC. Pretty damn good pedal. I had built the dr boogey DIY pedal (both versions) and they can't even touch this.

The Distortion Tone Grail. Tested it through small amps, big ones, EMGs and passives....and it just rocks out....smooth tone to metal ...can get some sweet Hendrix tones to some awesome grind like Rammstein, In Flames, Children of Bodom etc...the presence switch and the Void are life savers :D .. All in all...a kick-a** pedal!

King among pedals

Killer Tube pedal. when I got it it quickly replaced my keeley modded metal zone. This is the best sounding pedal I have owned. Better than tons of botique pedals. The sound is super thick and has great presence. The void control is useless for my playing. But you can turn it off, so it's not a problem. If you play metal/ hard rock and you have been looking for a thick & smooth tone from a pedal, get this and you will not look back.
