The TBX150R Tone Blaster Xtreme Guitar Combo Amp rocks as hard as an Ibanez guitar. 150W pumping into 2 - 12" speakers means you're covered for most venues. 2 discreet channels, each with their own 3-band active EQ and a parametric midrange in second channel gives you tons of tone flexibility. The Normal channel features switchable overdrive, and the Hot channel has switchable boost. Both channels have gain and volume controls. Reverb and Resonance effects are built in, and an effect loop lets you hook up stomp boxes with ease.

Plenty of power and tone for a bargain price

I felt it important to contribute a review of this amp because I have played it for hundreds of hours by now, and wish tell others that it is one of the best kept secrets out there. Also, I'm an EE, so I always take an amp apart to examine it's construction. [goodbye warranty, no worries there..]

It's a good looking amp, and it's highlights are visible by looking thru the 2 cooling vents on the top of the combo. The largest is a giant aluminum heatsink w. the power transistors mounted directly on it. The second is a vent over the power supply transformer. It's a nice looking toroid (donut shaped) that has less noise and quicker response than a 'normal' transformer. This gives the amp an incredibly snappy sound with very quick attack, even at crazy voume levels. Very nice !

The clean channel sounds good, and pressing the overdrive switch yields a Tube Screamer type of overdrive sound. The circuitry could be nearly identical. I noticed it uses the standard 4558 chips throughout. The 'hot' channel has a parametric EQ that lets you do the usual midrange scoop, and it really screams. Again, it's basically like having a built in distortion pedal. To be clear-- distortion, NOT overdrive. If your pedal board quit, you could make it thru almost any gig w. just this amp. The X-mode button is a midrange boost, might be useful for some but I don't use it much.

It's amusing how loudly you can turn this amp up before it even gets warm. The power amp section is brutal. Just one thing, tho: to get the most of this amp, swap out the speakers w. something of your choice. The factory ones are fine for clean sounds, but I put Celestions in and found a huge improvement. If you are not sure and want to test things, just plug in an external cab and note the difference. I run 2 amps for a complete stereo rig; this amp is my R channel, the L is a 100W Marshall tube amp. I love them both.

A bargain any way you look at it, and it sounds great too !!

I bought this amp because I was on a very tight budget at the time. While the clean channel is pretty nice, the distortion is terrible. I ran a Boss MT2 through it and it helped, but still it sounds pretty bad. The construction is cheap particle board, and the speakers really are very cheap too. I have had it cranked up and it had a very hard time keeping up with a drummer. Very disappointed. Ibanez is a great company, but they really failed on this amp. I would buy a Line6 over this amp anyday.

This combo amp is REALLY GOOD and LOUD. This amp can get really good heavy distortion for any kind of death metal, thrash metal, and hardcore 2-step sounds. This amp can get really loud. It's loud enough to jam with the drums and it's set to 4 I like to put it at 5 cause it's just heavy! The clean channel is really good also I got a good acoustic sound out of it. Also there is no breakup out of the two 12in speakers. GET this amp it's awesome for metal and loud enough for gigs and practice. If you get this amp you will NOT Regret it.

This is the best combo I have ever seen and heard. I don't know what to say, it is just excellent. We play death thrash metal, and we get absolutely amazing distortion. If you play metal, this is for you, no doubts, you won't regret. You will never need any distortion pedal again and trust me you'll be surprised with the sound you get from it.

Played this amp in a local guitar shop because I happened to be just roaming for guitar equipment that day. I was amazed at this amp and how much it could out due my Fender Deluxe 85 amp. This Ibanez amp has amazing sound to it for both acoustic and distortion, great for all forms of playing.

Not to mention the X button that throws the amp into an extreme metal tone that will make a metal-heads riffs come to life.
