All maple hollowbody is 3.15" deep and 16" wide. It has a neck profiled to Pat Metheny's preference, and its ebony fretboard is fitted with medium frets for greater fretboard sound and easier note bending. Super 58 neck pickup. I have an ibanez artcore, and I have played this guitar and this guitar is very far to be like an artcore, it feels very different, it sounds amazing, its just the best electric guitar I've ever played, just think about the pickguard, I dont use picks to play, but it seems to be very uncomfortable to play this guitar with a regular picking.

A great archtop with a modern flare

This is easily the most comfortable and best playing archtop I have owned. I prefer it over Gibson, Heritage and other similarly priced guitars. This PM is highly recommended!!

Designed for Metheny, not for most of us

This is a beautiful guitar. It plays unbelievably and sounds excellent (once the tone control is rolled down). But it has its problems. Metheny does not have a "normal" picking style according to most players, me being one. He holds the pick with a fist and pivots at his elbow. The guitar is designed after that. For anyone who doesn't play like this expect to put a pickguard on this thing to rest your fingers on. It gets to be very very uncomfortable after the 9 months I've had it. It is a whole different guitar with a pickguard feel-wise.

The pickup is a little bright, I find myself on "2" on the tone control most of the time. It does not need a second pickup! Bridge pickups ruin the acoustic quality of hollowbodies, and this one sounds very good.

The neck, fret work, and action is perfect. Very Gibson-like in the feel, but then it replaced Pat's ES-175. Fret wire size looks to be the same as the Gibson, slightly longer scale: 25" compared to 24 3/4" for the Gibson. Very dynamic pickup, can go from jazz soft to bight and expressive. Full bodied guitar can give feedback if not controlled, but the benefit is a sound with some depth. The double cut-away somehow gives a place for the hand in hitting the higher frets, somthing that Mr. Metheney obviously wanted. It is expensive, but the inlay work is excellent, and that doesn't seem to come cheap.

seriously, ibanez blew it. i love ibanez and, in my opinion, an ibanez artcore guitar isn't far from this model, which is sad considering this one is much more expensive. it's a good guitar, but not for this price.
