Transparent Red, Preamp Detail Preamp Diagram

The Ibanez MSC550 acoustic-electric guitar brings the unplugged and plugged-in worlds together in new and exciting ways. From the Montage Series, it merges two acoustic sounds, two electric sounds, mix capability, onboard reverb, chorus, distortion, phase canceling, plus a dual notch filter and tuner. These groundbreaking, innovative electronics are possible with the combination of the B-Band® UST acoustic pickup, Ibanez AP9 electric pickup, and the Ibanez HBP multi-function preamp with Onboard Tuner. Controls are conveniently mounted on the face of the upper bout. The preamp operates on a standard 9-volt battery and has balanced 1/4" outputs.

The Ibanez MSC550 guitar also features a flamed maple body with a transparent red gloss finish. Montage series acoustic guitars have a sleek, comfortable cutaway semi-jumbo body style and the exclusive Ibanez adjustable mahogany F.A.S.T. (Fast Action Set-Up Technology) lets the player quickly setup the action to their personal playing style. Other appointments include a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, Advantage™ bridge pins, and chrome die-cast tuners.

Dissapointed

I ordered this guitar 4 months in advance and waited. Finally it came. It looks great, it feels great! Unplugged it even sounds great! I play professionally and was really looking forward to this guitar. It has been nothing but a complete disapointment! The internal electronics are garbage! The concept was a good one, but I think Ibanez could've done A LOT BETTER with the electronics. I've had nothing but problems with the inputs from day 1 - the contacts cut out and half the time the flat mix output doesn't even work. The internal framework of the electronic guts are cheap and non-supportive of a really good input jack...it can't handle the weight and drops out. The most frustrating part is trying to get it fixed! Try and find a tech that can work on these things without sending it across the country! Too bad. It's a beautiful axe that sounds great when it works - not to mention the noise and the fact that it eats batteries like candy. I put 6 energizers in at the beginning of a session, and they're drained in 3 hours - and that's not using chorus or overdrive very long. They got the acoustic-electric sound right, but dropped the ball on the electronics. Ibanez, go back to the drawing board on this one!

Versatile and Innovative

I am a professional musician and avid guitar collector and play a variety of rock, jazz, blues and country. The Ibanez Montage is a very versatile guitar and can accomodate every venue. The ability to switch from acoustic to electric is extremely innovative. The craftmanship of this guitar is impeccable, the electronics are incredible. The on board effects, chorus, phaser, reverb and overdrive virtually eliminate the need for countless pedals. The Montage is a fine quality instrument with a very affordable price tag.

Montage Rocks

I purchased a Taylor T5 last June and tried many different settings and set-ups but was never happy with it. I recently bought the Ibanez Montage and it seems just the ticket for me. I'm not saying the Taylor isn't a great guitar it just isn't for me. With all the on-board sounds and effects the Montage offers it fits my needs perfectly and it keeps things simple. No need for multiple amps or effects - just plug it in the house system and it sounds great.

I haven't noticed any problems with the finish or the electronics.

It tried the MSC550 at a local music store that I have been dealing with for many years. At first glance I loved the color. I then took it down from the rack and played and E cord. There was a nasty vibration inside of the guitar. Hmmmm I thought that was odd must be something loose. I then took the 550 over and plugged it in....WOW did it sound great....I played for a bit and found that the action was very high....I continued to look things over only to find that the fit and finish was just plain bad...very Cheap...like they slapped it together....I was very disapointed. What I would say about this guitar is that it is a great concept....Ibanez has put it's name on a poor constucted product

Nice Guitar, a little disappointed

Without repeating the other reviews, I will say that I do enjoy the overall sound and versatility. My only complaints are; The finish does not match those of the pictures (at least mine is very dull without the grain shown) The neck is unfinished and a little rough and I have concern for wear. The frets needed filing. The body feels like balsa-wood, thin & cheap. The on-board tuner & effects are crap but as mentioned before I have alternatives for these issues. I hope to find a love for the positive aspects and enjoy the sound this is capable of. I did expect & hope for more from this guitar. Shame on me for buying without trying, but I could'nt find it and went for the hype. By-the-way, DO NOT Buy the recommended Ibanez AC100 case for this, I did and what a HUGE mistake, JUNK! Shame on you Ibanez!
