The Ibanez Jemini unleashes Steve Vai's first Signature Distortion pedal. The unique, multicolored Jemini stompbox combines overdrive and distortion in one rigid aluminum case. I watched Steve Vai's video review on this pedal, and this thing looked too good to be true...and it was. The good part about this pedal was the green side really acted as a great boost for by Boss MetalCore. It really made everything more grittier. The red side was the real dissapointment to me though. In the video, Vai makes the craziest sounding distortion, but even with the drive turned all the way up, it still sounded like a basic overdrive. Im gonna be returning this pedal.

If you are a good guitarist and need a very good and versatile something that will allow you to quickly switch among your clean sound, a great crunchy rhythm and a thick, smooth, creamy distortion for solos, this is the ONE for you. The "green" side is a great little overdrive for your crunchy power chords & chuggy rhythms, and you won't expect it to be a distortion if you have three brain cells or more. But when you need to kick in the high grear for soaring solos, you go red and do your magic. It's simple, it's efficient, it's outstanding value for the money, so by all means, if you know anything about playing guitar and need a versatile, simple stompbox with great sounds, search no more but click "buy" now.

This pedal is great. It do anything from blues, vai stuff, all the way to metal. The green side is a good overdrive for that tubescreamer feel, while the red side (my favorite side) is the smoothest most natural distortion ive ever used, and ive used a lot, ds-1, distortion+, metal core, uber metal, dr. boogey etc. and this pedal is great kicks all their butts!!! You should really get this pedal. Its so cool.

Even though Vai says he does so, I doubt he uses this in front of a clean amp to get his signature sound a lot... I do believe he uses it in front of an overdriven or distorted amp, as a gain-booster, and for that, it works GREAT. This is a very very versatile pedal, and I dont agree to the GP review I read recently, complaing that both modes cant be activated simultaneously... I dont think thats necessary really, but thats just my opinion. The "green side" gives you nice overdriven sounds resembling the Tube Screamer to a certain degree, very nice for crunch sounds or to push your overdriven amp into lead-territory... very nice, I use this side most of the time in front of a distorted tube amp. The red side gives you more gain and a different voicing, reminding me of the classic DS-1 at times... which is one of Vai's favorites. I use this occasionally with a slightly overdriven tube amp, or to get gain-overkill for feedback or extreme sounds.

This will NOT give you Vais sound, it of course is about the guitar, amp, pickups and mainly your playing. However, it DOES sound very good, and offers quite a lot of variety. You basically get 2 pedals combined as one, and this is not only a nice pedal for Vai-fans... classic rock, blues or metal-sounds are possible with ease, as long as you dont expect the "For The Love Of God" sound when plugging this into a 10 W clean solid state amp.
