Jazzier than the GB10

My review of this guitar is a comparison to the popular GB10, which I also own. The body of this guitar is a little deeper resulting in a deeper & woodier tone than the GB10. Chords sound cleaner and clearer, more like a full sized archtop. The feel is very different with a wider neck, but the action is just superb! This guitar has just 1 p.u. at the neck - that's all you'll need - and coil tapping capabilities. The transparent red body and black chrome hardware are stunning when seen in person. I play this guitar every day and love it.

The George Benson GB15 is a great guitar for jazz, smooth jazz, soul and blues. The single pickup is very loud and has accurate clarity. The sound is full, powerful and clean. There is coil tapping on the pickup, but you might not use as much. The size of the guitar is not too big. The only problem is that there is no strap button installed. Why did Ibanez not put it in? They can build the best jazz guitar but no strap button? I had to install it myself. Take it to an expert. The case is okay and the gig bag is no big deal. I play my guitar through a Fender Hot Rod clean and sometimes a little Marshall and it sounds great. This guitar seems to be even signed by George Benson himself in the inside. I recommend dunlop strap locks they are the best for this guitar. You can't beat the tone on this guitar, you have to hear it to believe it

Not a lot of electronic gadgetry. What it does have is an excellent jazz tone and excellent craftsmanship. Don't be fooled by the transparent red--it looks rich and deep. The instrument was perfectly intoned and set up right out of the case, which was free. They also send a gig bag free, and it has a GB logo and nice plush interior--not cheap nylon fabric. This is a good choice for anyone at any level.

Great New George Benson Model

This review is for the Ibanez GB15TR (transparent red). This guitar is for Jazz. It resembles the GB10(Ibanez's longest running signature model), but is different in some fundamental ways. It is similar in shape to the GB10, i.e., laminated spruce top with a lower bout of about 14-1/2". In fact, from the front, it looks like my blonde GB10, except there's only 1 PU (neck) plus it's red with chrome (instead of gold) hardware. Differences: the one PU (neck) has coil tapping capabilities,i.e., double and single coil sounds. Although I don't often use the single coil sound, both PU positions do sound great. Key diffrerence: This guitar's body is about 3" thick (deep), that's about 1/2" thicker than the GB10. This results in a deeper, woodier, and more mellow & jazzy tone (I string it with 13 gauge flat wounds). This guitar's neck is also a millimeter wider than the GB10's. The action on mine is almost embarassingly easy, i.e., it plays almost effortlessly and articulates very clearly. The finish is beautiful and flawless. The transparent red looks just beautiful in person (much better than the pictures in the ads), and the hardware is a dark chrome that Ibanez refers to as "Cosmo Black". I also like that it came with a nice hard case and a quality gig bag. So, here we have the comfort of a small body, but with a deeper tone reminiscent of a full size archtop. Add to this, ease of playing and stunning looks and Ibanez has come out with another winner!
