The Pink Pedal

I had one of these back in the 80's and, through the amp changes and, all the things that a musician will do to achieve that "sound" I either sold or traded it away. The other day I happened to find some recordings I had made back in the 80's-90's and, the minute I heard what I had back then I was on a quest to obtain another one of these pink pedals. I was a little bit concerned about some of the feedback that the older models sounded better than the reissue, that was put away the first time I fired this little gem up and, that wonderful delay tone came back to me as I had remembered. I can't wait to gig with this unit and, enjoy that wonderful sound that I so loved years ago. Very simple to operate and, use, I would recommend to get the 9v power supply just simply because battery use can get expensive. Highly recommend this unit, will not ever part with it again.

I wanted a warm analog delay and I was battling over this and the MXR Carbon Copy. Though this pedal can't make a warping spaceship sound (which the Carbon Copy can do), it's a timeless classic. It's a pretty neat pedal with awesome sound. Beware a small volume drop. You can get this fixed from Keeley, though. I'd suggest it to those who are looking for a nice analog delay. Try it out, first.

Well, my experience with delay pedals before owning the AD9 was actually the Ibanez DL5 Soundtank Digital Delay pedal. I never really liked how the DL5 attenuated my bass and midrange on my guitar. Plus, when the battery got low it would emit this really annoying beeping tone...like how alarm clocks are intentionally made to sound like harsh crap so you're motivated to get up and at least turn it off.

Anyways, I bought the AD9 re-issue a year ago on the "analog is warmer" assumption. Well, thankfully it turned out to be right on the money. The delay sounds almost creamy in comparison to the digital version I had before. For the 330 ms max delay time point that some people bring up, there are plenty of other delay pedals with more features for that inclination. But for those like me who want to modify tone and and help pad the space left open by a solo guitar, then this delay pedal is great. For my slide blues playing with a Cort hollow-body jazz guitar through an Epiphone Valve Junior tube amp...this delay pedal is icing on the cake.

I had the chance to play a re-issue AD9 and A/B it along with an original, vintage AD9 and I could not tell the difference in sound...heck, even physically the two were almost identical.

My only big gripe about it is that the recessed LED has an optimal view angle of right above it. If you're slightly off-angle then the LED's on or off status isn't immediately obvious on a stage washed with some red light. Also, the writing below each knob is hard, if not impossible, to read on a dimly lit stage (maybe a pedalboard light will alleviate this?). Lastly, the price wasn't easy to swallow initially, but hey you get what you pay for.

Wow this thing is a Beauty I love it I've had it for two days and its increadable it sounds great clean or dirty I love it. And you dont need much more time than what it gives anyway. Analog is the best no question about it. It sounds great over Cliffs of Dover, like what Johnson does... AMAZING

I had a digital delay before. Digital gives you more power and flexibility but I found it to be too overwhelming. This pedal is so warm I use it all the time and dont bother with the reverb. It gives me an echo but its so mellow and smooth. With digital I always had the reverb on and the delay was more of a special effect. The AD-9 is so nice I can leave it all all the time.

The lack of delay time is no problem. I got used it within a few hours. The sound quality more than makes up for the lack of power.
