Flat Black Grey Pewter, Back Grey Pewter, Close Angle Grey Pewter, Headstock Grey Pewter

The Ibanez RG5EX1 electric guitar's pickups and pickup placement provide the hard-edged cutting tone needed for heavy rock.

Since 1987, many players have selected the Ibanez RG as their weapon of choice for visiting sonic mayhem on the metal masses. With the right choice of pickups and flat, fast necks, the RG crunched its way to classic status.

As heavy as it rocks, the RG5EX1 guitar is made of basswood, a comparatively lightweight wood, which makes it very comfortable for extended playing. With a good balance of highs and lows, basswood is between alder and mahogany in sound character. 24 jumbo frets offer easy playing for leads and chording and the Edge III tremolo bridge lets you dive-bomb all night long while keeping tuning tight.

Total tonal choice is provided 5-way switching of an Ibanez Infinity 4 bridge humbucker with an alnico magnet that is warm sounding with good harmonics, an Infinity 3 bridge humbucker with a ceramic magnet producing dynamic sound for rhythm chording, and an Infinity Single3 single-coil with an alnico magnet for traditional sounds with high output.

Not Standard RG series size

I bought one of these and when I later bought an Ibanez RG140C case for it, I was extremely disappointed to find that the RG5EX1 does not fit in the case. Now, I'm stuck paying shipping charges to send this case back, even though it is supposed to work with any RG series guitar. The RG5EX1 has "RG Series" printed boldly on the head. However, it needs to have a little asterisk beside it with small print on the back. If you don't care about being able to tote this around in an Ibanez case, I would avoid this guitar.

My dad surprised me with this one and gave it to me for my 18th birthday (he owned it before and thought it was awesome). I have always liked this guitar since the first time I played it - it sounded great, felt great, and the pickups are quite nice for stock. The big downside to this one is the Edge III - at first I didn't see why people were complaining about it... but then I used it myself. After changing the strings to 11 gauge, it would NOT stay in tune, and when it would, it was always a quarter tone flat >.< So after figuring that out and doing a bit of work on it, I realized that the string tension was not working for it, and after lowering the tuning and resetting the bridge, it WON'T go out of tune for me. Like I said, the stock pickups are quite good, the neck feels fantastic, the finish is cool, and the reverse headstock and black pearl sharkteeth give it a unique character. Just make sure that the Edge III is completely set, and this is an excellent guitar for the price.

Great Overall Guitar

I'm not a shredder, which is what really turns me off of the Infinity pickups. Overall, the guitar is about a year old and the neck is still true, as is all of the other machinery that goes into it. It's a nice guitar in that you have the floating bridge and string locks. However, as stated, I would definitely replace the infinity pickups (they sound fine, just too harsh for my playing) to something cheap (probably guitarfetish p90s with a lace sensor in the middle). The guitar looks absolutely astonishing; gunmetal really flows well with the black pearloid inlays. Overall, a very beautiful guitar that plays insanely well.

Excellent buy for the cost

It's a sturdy all around guitar. I've had it for a good two years now, been playing for four, and I've never had any problems with it. The stock INF pickups deliver the output of a Seymour Duncan and the action is incredibly low, letting you shred, sweep, and scream like nothing. You'll be hitting the harmonics within half a minute of playing. Hands down, I'd pay the original retail price for this guitar. I consider it a steal that I bought it for half of what it's normal price is.

The final note I have is about the Trem. It's what really dropped the rating to a 4.5 overall. It usually stays in tune but you seem to have to fine tune every couple of hours just because. Other than that, this machine is a true buy and I recommend it to any and all new and experienced players.

my buddy got this guitar for xmas, he of coarse, never plays it because he is mostly a bass and drum player. every time i go to his house i try to get it in tune, the floyd rose on this thing just sucks, i am clueless as to how this one works, i have a floyd on my washburn and i have no trouble with it, but on this, that bridge just kept getting pulled up.
