Flat Black Grey Pewter, Back Grey Pewter, Close Angle Grey Pewter, Headstock Grey Pewter

The Ibanez RG5EX1 electric guitar's pickups and pickup placement provide the hard-edged cutting tone needed for heavy rock.

Since 1987, many players have selected the Ibanez RG as their weapon of choice for visiting sonic mayhem on the metal masses. With the right choice of pickups and flat, fast necks, the RG crunched its way to classic status.

As heavy as it rocks, the RG5EX1 guitar is made of basswood, a comparatively lightweight wood, which makes it very comfortable for extended playing. With a good balance of highs and lows, basswood is between alder and mahogany in sound character. 24 jumbo frets offer easy playing for leads and chording and the Edge III tremolo bridge lets you dive-bomb all night long while keeping tuning tight.

Great Overall Guitar

I'm not a shredder, which is what really turns me off of the Infinity pickups. Overall, the guitar is about a year old and the neck is still true, as is all of the other machinery that goes into it. It's a nice guitar in that you have the floating bridge and string locks. However, as stated, I would definitely replace the infinity pickups (they sound fine, just too harsh for my playing) to something cheap (probably guitarfetish p90s with a lace sensor in the middle). The guitar looks absolutely astonishing; gunmetal really flows well with the black pearloid inlays. Overall, a very beautiful guitar that plays insanely well.

It's a sturdy all around guitar. I've had it for a good two years now, been playing for four, and I've never had any problems with it. The stock INF pickups deliver the output of a Seymour Duncan and the action is incredibly low, letting you shred, sweep, and scream like nothing. You'll be hitting the harmonics within half a minute of playing. Hands down, I'd pay the original retail price for this guitar. I consider it a steal that I bought it for half of what it's normal price is.

The final note I have is about the Trem. It's what really dropped the rating to a 4.5 overall. It usually stays in tune but you seem to have to fine tune every couple of hours just because. Other than that, this machine is a true buy and I recommend it to any and all new and experienced players.

my buddy got this guitar for xmas, he of coarse, never plays it because he is mostly a bass and drum player. every time i go to his house i try to get it in tune, the floyd rose on this thing just sucks, i am clueless as to how this one works, i have a floyd on my washburn and i have no trouble with it, but on this, that bridge just kept getting pulled up.

I have played several RG's in this price range, and all performed very well. Here are the pro's and cons: Pro's: Lightweight, nice finish, versatile pickup array, fast, flat neck, big frets, bound rosewood fretboard, cool inlays, and the edge III can take a lot of abuse I.E. lifting the guitar up by the bar and violently shaking it around and come back to being in tune. Con's: The pickups are a little muddy, the rosewood isn't as smooth as an ebony 'board, the parts come loose after a while, some people might not like the satin finish neck, and the locking bridge might be hassle for less experienced players.

For less than the price of a MIM strat or tele, you get a fast, precise speed machine with a double locking bridge and pickups that are a bit muddy, but if you buy this guitar you're probably not going to be playing clean anywaY

This guitar is amazing for the price you pay. Action is excellent, pickups are good compared to other stock pickups. Warning: Parts strip easily, but can be replaced for about $1.00 at Home Depot. Recommend you replace strings immediatley, as it will help with tuning problems (had them until I replaced strings, then no more problem). All in all a very good deal.
