Need A NOISE LIMITER to work well

Recently, I was on tour with a side project band and my metal zone BOSS pedal was chucked through a club window by a man who had a little too much to drink. So I borrowed my other guitarist's pedal for the rest of the show. afterwords, I knew I needed a new pedal but I was low on dough. So I order this nu-metal distortion pedal off the internet hoping it would be good enough to last until I had the money to buy a new pedal. Its awesome, it has a very crunchy grundge tone and sortof a chorus effect too. Just one word of advice; GEt a limiter! Otherwise your amp will screech loudly and make unpleasant noices...

The WARP Factor! Bottom End Deliverance.

First off the price is great. So the value is there. Second the sound is FAT and the distortion is very controllable and has decent range. The tone is pretty limited to just a bottom heavy/mid scoop sound, but hey, that’s what it says it does. I play with a few different guitars, tunings and amplifiers and the H&K Warp Factor sounded good in every application.
I use a Gibson SG & Les Paul. A Suier Fat Strat. An Ibanez Roadster and an Epiphone Coronet. I play in tunings from standard ‘E’ down to a dropped ‘B’.
As for amplification it varies from a Peavey practice combo 1-8” to 2 CARVIN all tube half stacks and a couple in between(and most of the time, all @ once). Basically 6 separate sound sources. I read some pretty bad reviews for this pedal so I made sure that it worked in ALL of my applications and it did!
I use 2 different distortion sources, the Warp Factor and a RAT pedal. I use the RAT for more crunchy heavy rock, ala the Stooges, TRex, the Pixies even. But the Warp Factor works great for classic low end rock, ala Black Sabbath, Cream, Zeppelin, Blue Cheer. It also works great for what I mostly play which is strongly rooted in Stoner Rock, ala KYUSS, Soundgarden, Fu Manchu, Atomic Bitchwax, Slo Burn. In fact as a side note for Fu Manchu fans this pedal comes the closest to their sound that I’ve ever been able to find in current production(which you all know is a very distinct distortion).
As for design and whatnot there’s no denying that the switch totally sucks. If you plan to use this pedal for touring or live applications be gentle with it.
As for the amp setting button it basically just acts as a bass boost and I haven’t found it that useful thusfar.
All in all if you want a low end distortion pedal buy this one. But I couldn’t see this being your only distortion choice.

Hughes & Kettner Warp Factor

Hey, it's cheap, let’s try it, it sounds like a mid scooped bottom driving power cord noisy stomp box from China!! But yet all things can be useful I found this pedal to be noisy and out of control but where is the noise coming from?
Taking the bottom plate off reveals the main problem you will notice there is a small wire coming off the PC board that is the ground wire, then you notice it is attached to the cast housing of the pedal VIA the plate screw you will also notice there is paint on the housing and on the back of the plate where the ground wire is sandwiched in between!!!
Take sand paper and clean the paint off down to the bare metal (plate and housing) and slap the plate back on WoW It cleans up like a new pedal. Why do people build something and overlook
A foreseeable issue as a little paint on the grounding surface.
Never the less now I can use this pedal, first off I noticed it sounds like the Scorpions using my Les Paul I started playing Rock you like a Hurricane I had my friend busting at the seams laughing it sounded dead on Scorpions. This pedal and Fender amps don’t sound good at all tweaking your pedal and Amp will reveal it will produce a decent sound just don’t Dime the thing and expect it to sound good.
This pedal is OK and will have a use for a good power cord Ala The Darkness.

Amazingly disappointed

I bought this thinking it is was the heaviest pedal ever... all I got was a pedal that is good for a paper weight, if even that. I am extremely pickey about tone and the quality that comes out of my line 6 Spider 2... I couldn't make this pedal sound good with even an EQ in front AND behind it- I would suggest that if you are going to invest in an inexpensive distortion to go with the Line 6 Uber Metal- It may cost more, but it sounds like nothing else...

Many people have trashed this pedal: I don't know why. I've owned mine for more than 2 years and it continues to amaze me. It has usable gain from barely overdriven to heavy, infinite sustain, it keeps note definition and clarity when loud, and it is dead quiet. I play through 2 2x12 sealed back cabs with Celestion G12K100's, so power handling and bass reproduction are not a problem. I do not use overwound pickups. If you have a high powered hybrid or all tube amp, you might want to give this pedal a try. Versatile gain, bass boost, and presence knob in a sturdy package, dead quiet and its on sale. If you've got a 15 watt soild state combo with a single 10", you might want to pass it by.
