I bought mine and the speaker blew-out. But if you want a really mid-range sound that it does have. You can't scoop the mid-range at all leaving no crunch for metal. The reverb was that thick hall type which sounded good playing with a violen bow but I wouldn't call it a Bulldog more like a chihuahua!

This amp is a little tiger. It has a 60 watt 10 inch speaker. That's right 60 watts.Very clean sound. You can use it for any style of music. The fx loop is very handy as well. For this price it can't be beat. Absolutely can be used by a pro. The distortion is heavy, sort of like big muff or an old tube amp. Good Spring reverb. Very solid and compact amp. Sounds great with an old Hagstrom Swede and a new Hagstrom f20.Good all around amp!

Hiwatt has always been my ideal of the rock guitar amp, and the Bulldog 30R looked great out of the box. I immediately noticed there was NO paperwork. No instruction manual, no warrantee card, NOTHING. Checking out the back side, the reverb tank was loose and stuck to the speaker magnet. With the amp facing me, I tilted it forward to see what additional in/outs there were, and, SURPRISE! The baffle holding the speaker fell off along with one of the side supports.

I plugged in my Les Paul and turned up the volume, and, NOTHING! I mucked about with it for a few minutes and finally figured out that you had to have at least one of the eq knobs engaged before any sound was produced. Once I got it dialed in, this thing is LOUD for it's size. The clean channel produces some fabulous tones but the overdrive takes some finessing to get the smooth type of crunch I desire. The reverb is off or way too on. Again, it takes more than a little finessing to get just a touch of reverb. Even at the price I'm not sure this is a good deal. I'll stick with my Vox Pathfinder 15R.
