The OD-2's circuit is based on the vintage Tubescreamer design with a few changes that offer marked improvements. It uses a smoother, less harsh-sounding chip than other versions, giving it the same warm, tube-like voice as the vintage 'screamer.

I'd been meaning to get an Overdrive pedal for awhile now, mostly because I just got a bit bored with my amp's chennels (Hot Rod Deluxe) and wanted something with a different flavor. What stopped me all this time was the notion that I couldn't get a decent OD for under $150. And even the more expensive ones I tried, none seemed to get me the sound I was looking for. I actually bought the OD-2 on a lark, it was on sale, I liked the way the sound clip sounded, so I figured I couldn't go wrong, if I didn't like it I'd send it back. I was pleasantly surprised at the fantastic, warm boost it gives, really just takes your guitar (Carvin DC400) and amp sound and makes them sweeter. Even at regular price, this little guy is a bargain!

Very opaque sounding with huge midrange hump. Very cheap construction; the square rubberband/ grommet also holds the bottom plate on. Very difficult to deal with. Once this breaks or is lost you've lost the bottom off the pedal too. It's too light to stay put on a floor. Sounds bad, poor engineering and construction, incredibly high price; This thing should sell for $9.95. ANY other pedal is a better deal.

great warm overdrive

This is a very WARM overdrive. I use it as a lead boost with a Marshall plexi. It's similar to a TS9 but doesn't color the guitar/amp tone as much. It doesn't roll off the low end as bad as some overdrives. It's great for adding thickness to a Strat.

The physical quality isn't as good as Boss, etc. The bottom plate is held on by a rubber ring that you have to remove to change the battery. However, batteries last very long and it can use the typical Boss power supply. The switch is very close to the knobs so you have to be careful where you step.

Bottom line: sounds great but not very road-worthy

Construction is cheap....that being said this is an incredible sounding overdrive, and it is a really good deal $-wise. If you have messed with one or two pedals and can't find the right one, try this.

Best OD on the market period

I have had this baby for over 3 years of constant gigging. It will never leave my pedal board. The slight boost of the low end makes it cut though the mix on stage better than the Ibanez Tubescreamers. I bought the TS808 thinking it would replace the OD-2, but it did not. I will keep th TS808 when I play my small rig, TS808 and Thomas Organ Crybaby, but the OD stays on my gigging pedalboard.
