The MO-3 Micro Octaver is a 100% analog octave divider based on a vintage 1970s Guyatone circuit. Some modern design features have been added to bring the MO-3 pedal up to date, but it is still an analog effect, and its operation will vary greatly depending on input signal and playing dynamics.

The MO-3 pedal offers one octave down and two octaves down from the original input signal, as well as a Dry blend control. I LOVE THIS UNIT!

First, here is the bad: The battery on all the guyatone micro effects is very difficult to get to so make sure you have or get an adapter for this unit. Note tracking on the micro octaver is terrible if you play below the 10th fret. This can make some really cool noises but controlling them is impossible. If you want clean tracking that is easily controlled you should get the ebs octabass. It is by far superior for guitar or bass sub-octave generation, and the lower octaves on this unit are run through a pretty heavily distorted preamp. The preamp has a tiny control knob that should be full sized. It along with a 3-position switch gives some control over this unit, but getting a clean sub octave is not really possible.

Now the good: I LOVE this box. Right now I use the micro octaver for a dance rock band where i provide bass lines and some leads. I run a tele on the neck pickup through this unit into a boss v-wah with fuzz distortion and analog wah. This set up gives me some great analog synth bass tones as well as some crazy crunchy distorted noises that are great for texturing ends of songs or making percussive noises during minimalistic songs. Some day I would like another of these units because there are two settings I switch between for various tones. Again, I do not recommend this unit to most people, but if you are looking for synth tones or crazy distorted sounds then give the micro octaver a try.
