I bought a new Guild D-55 in 1997. I had always dreamed of owning one. I love it and would NEVER sell it. Not to mention that the new model has doubled in price since then.

I purchased my D55 roughly 33 years ago. I also own a Martin D25 12 string. But the Guild is my pride and joy...it has mellowed sweetly and maintained its beauty in both looks, sound and ease of play. Ot of all I've owned, the D55 is certainly my favorite. If they still them like they did mine...well, you know the rest. Thanks Guild.

Undoubtedly my most prized posession...

I own a newer, Tacoma-built Guild D55 in the beautiful sunburst. Mine didn't come with D-TAR, so I had a pickup locally installed. Although this guitar costs a lot, it is far less than a comparable Martin or Taylor, which is why I gave it a 5 for value (as well as in the other categories).

This thing plays and sounds incredible, and the quality is unbeatable. Just the other day, I had a show, and set up my equipment, only to find that my pedalboard was malfunctioning. I was already onstage, and it was time to go, so I started tuning by ear... and my D55 was already in perfect tune, several days after I'd last used it (I do keep a humidifier in the case, though).

Anyway, great instrument. Everyone should have one, but then I wouldn't feel as unique...

Just play and see!

I have spent the last two years looking for the one. You know the one you pick up and strum and start smiling uncontrollably, and then you have to get your pickin' buddy to play it because he won't believe you when you tell him how good it sounds. I have played countless makers and models of guitars over the last two years, and this is by far the best sounding, easiest playing guitar I've come across. This guitar, to me, is perfectly balanced from string to string with unbelievable projection and tone. There are some good guitar makers out there, Washburn, Martin, Taylor, Alvarez Yari, Takamine, and you have to play what sounds best to you. But, if you have never played the D55 your doing yourself a disservice. Just play and see!

This is the first guitar out of all that i have owned that replaced a guild d25 from 1978. The d25 which was given to my daughter for graduation was an outstanding for flat picking and I would always pick it up over my others. This d55 has a wonderful sound for a 8 year old instrument that has the potential to bloosm into a great overall sound in the next 10 years and I am banking on it. Although the it is a "pretty" instruments, time will tell if it has he quality craftmanship and materials to last 20-30 years down the road. If it does, I think it will able to compete with the d18's of yesterday.
