125 years of experience come together in this very fine archtop guitar.
In celebration of the 125th anniversary of Gretsch and a legacy that has lasted five decades, the tradition of the anniversary model continues. To commemorate this historic event, a very special electric guitar was created that is sure to be an instant classic. Combining time-tested Gretsch elements from the past with new features, the 125th Anniversary G6118T model has a Lacquer Finished ultra rare Jaguar Tan top, with metallic gold back and sides. The body is made of three-ply laminated maple for the utmost resonance and tone.
Two key individuals in the Gretsch story recently designed a unique scalloped bracing specifically voiced for Gretsch guitars. The ML bracing, which stands for Gretsch guitar designers Masao Terada and Mike Lewis, makes its debut on the 125th "Annie." This construction synchronizes the vibration of the top and back, with increased acoustical openness in tone. Accentuating the tone of the ML bracing are a pair of TV Jones Power'Tron pickups, pinned rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge and a Bigsby B6C vibrato tailpiece.
Gretsch Guitars G6118T 125th Anniversary Jaguar Tan Electric Guitar Features:
When I first started looking at Gretsch guitars I had a different model in mind. I was stuck between the Chet Atkins and the RHH model. One day I saw this guitar, decided to play it as a comparison, and instantly knew this was the one. Compared to the other models I tried, this one has much more versatility, it can produce a wider variety of sounds, and they all sound top-notch. The TV Jones Powertrons are amazing, although they are a bit too hot for some of my smaller tube amps. Its hard to describe the sound in absolute terms, but relative to the standard "Gretsch sound", this model has a bit less bite and twang, more warmth and color, and more sustain. I knocked off some points in the value category, because honestly, this guitar is priced too high. Considering my hand-made custom Taylor cost about the same as this mass-produced and not USA-made guitar, its hard to say this is a good value. However, the quality overall is great, the only real quality issue I have is the bridge that comes on this model. It's not bad, it's just with all the other custom stuff they did, why not put something a little better on there?
Overall, this is a great guitar. Sounds great, plays great, looks great, and it should hold its value rather well. IF you are after that Gretsch sound, with a little something different mixed in, this is it.
One last note: this guitar can be a bit tricky to set up at first, especially if you aren't used to this style of guitar.

WOW! What a versatile guitar. Between the pickup selector and tone selector switches the sound possibilities are endless. Smooth, velvety cleans through edgy distortion- what ever sound you want this beautifully built showpiece delivers. The Bigsby is a nice touch as well. I was a little disappointed to see it is made in Japan, but they have been building top of the line guitars for years now. I am truly impressed with this guitar.
