G100 Archtop

I put 13's on it. Moved the bridge to center it and the string pressure settled it in. Put a Ken Armstrong Humbucker on it. Had to cut in the pickguard a little to accommodate the pickup. Acoustically it won't blow you away. Plugged in with the pickup its nice and somewhat jazzy sounding. I may some day bit the bullet and cut in a Gibson P-90 but for now its fine. One of the tings I like the most is the neck shape and width. Also the adjustable saddle. I've had to raise it a couple times as it has settled in. The workmanship is first class not a flaw. Unlike stuff you get from Gibson at 4 to 5 times the price. Sorry I have recent Gibsons also. If you are looking for an old time jazz box that wont break the bank and is fun and comfortable then try this.

I have to keep reminding myself that generally you get what you pay. I took the plunge. The good news; the guitar workmanship was very impressive for such an inexpensive guitar. Physically it looked very well made and very solid. Now the bad news; the guitar arrived in an orange-ish color and not the natural color I envisioned by the ads; almost as if they sent me a burst without the black edging? Set-up was terrible with string buzzing. I raised the bridge about as high as I could get it and the buzzing was minimized but still apparent in the higher fret positions. The sound was very, very tinny. Almost like a child's guitar. Very, very disappointed. Needless to say it's on it's way back. Now I'll try the Godin 5th Avenue.

Been playing it for a few months now......and it's hard to put down. This guitar feels just right and plays great out of the box. Get some Thomastik-Infeld's for sure. I also added a Kent Armstrong neck mount jazz pickup......It's unplugged sound is nice but a little shallow.

Many guitars in the stable but she is the I grab most often. Very versatile guitar. Would buy it again if lost or stolen.

WHAT A SURPRISE

I think I've become a Gretsch fan. The matte finish is perfect for this guitar. The neck reminds me of a low profile Martin but a taste wider. Jumbo frets are finished perfectly. No edges sticking out to bloody your hand. The body fits nice on your leg and is comfortable to play for hours in a blues jam. I put Grover 18:1 on everything but there is nothing wrong what so ever with these tuners. The saddle seems to fit perfectly with the body. Out of the box the action is close full length of the neck. They give you a bone nut on this thing. I ordered the tweed dreadnought case fits it perfectly. And they shipped the guitar IN the case thankfully. Sound: Its not like an unplugged 5120. Its got the acoustic vibe. Not loud like a dreadnought or boomy. But pleasant and bluesy. Experimenting with different strings will be interesting. This is the cheapest guitar in my herd. I am totally impressed with quality control at Gretsch and thought into the product. If you hand it out at a jam session you won't get it back the rest of the night.

I just got this, and I love it! The tone rings loud and clear, the neck is super-easy, the finish is awesome (no fingerprints/smudges), I love the pearl inlays, and I like the strings that are on it, but can't wait to hear what it sounds like with my usual Martins or D'Addarios. I have always wanted to own a Gretsch, and this is one of the more affordable options -- if you're thinking of getting this guitar, go for it! You won't be disappointed! Now, if I only had the money for a White Falcon w/ Bigsby ...
