The archtop acoustic of the past, for today's modern musician.
The Godin 5th Avenue brings you back to a time when the archtop acoustic guitar reigned supreme. With the soul of a 1950s archtop, the 5th Avenue is true to the vintage spirit of yesterday with today's level of modern playability. With more projection and volume in the low and mid tones than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated guitar a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. The Godin 5th Avenue now makes the affordable North American archtop guitar a reality.
A great deal of time and research went into crafting the 5th Avenue. Revoiced for the music of today, it would not seem unfamiliar for this guitar to be seen in the hands of artists the likes of Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Ryan Adams, or even Jack White (White Stripes). From alt-country, Delta blues, slide, jazz to rock, the 5th Avenue archtop guitar can really deliver.
Made from laminated Canadian wild cherry, the 5th Avenue guitar's body features a molded arched top and back, as well as an adjustable rosewood bridge, classic F-holes, contoured high-gloss headstock, floating pickguard and cream binding. The rustic beauty of its custom polished finish gives the 5th Avenue archtop a gorgeous satin sheen reminiscent of 19th Century French polish.

first impression...beautiful. not much to adjust right out of the box. intonation is great. sustain is more than ok. lows are ok. i did find that it was a very delicately made instrument, not something you would want to take out on a camping trip. other than that my biggest problem with the guitar is weather or not to keep the pickguard on.

I ordered the Godin 5th Avenue online because I couldn't find it in a store. Reviews were 99% favorable and helpful. I am very pleased with my guitar's stunning appearance, better than depicted online. I am also very pleased with it's acoustic sound. My previous laminated archtop, by a different manufacturer, was not at all satisfying acoustically. The Godin 5th avenue sounds very good, especially good balance for fingerstyle and accompanying, "comping." Well built and gorgeous, no flaws, great playability and price, I recommend it highly. I haven't found a properly sized case or gigbag yet. Might have to order a "Tric" case.

The Godin 5th Ave guitar might be a good choice if you are set on getting an archtop and are on a tight budget but if you can live with a flat top their are better choices for the price. I found that the 5th Ave was flimsily made, did not hold tune well, had marginal sound both for tone and volume and intonation was slightly off. It is inexpensive for an archtop and looks great but for the price there are well made flat tops from Martin, Talkamine and others that play better than this guitar.

Wow! I got my cognac burst a couple of weeks ago and feel like I hit the jackpot. This is the best guitar at this price. A full sounding archtop, amazing bass for this design. It will be a great "take to a party guitar." Not super loud, as one would expect, but will keep up with flat tops if you use a flat pick. Subtle when finger picked, jazzy with a flat pick. The price is unbelievable. Cheers to Robert Godin a real winner.

I like the Cognac Burst color a lot, the wood grain looks great, and the finish is satiny, not glossy. The guitar is nice and light, like an acoustic should be, but doesn't feel cheap. The factory setup was adequate, and the intonation is dead on. I was able to lower the action quite a bit at the bridge, and it plays a whole lot better now. The sound is what I expected, midranges and trebles project well, not as bassy or as loud as a flat top, but with a sweet tone that will fit in well at an acoustic jam.
The nut is cream Graphtech Tusq, and appears to be properly cut, with the strings riding through without binding. The MF description says it's rosewood, but the bridge is actually black Graphtech Tusq, and looks like ebony from a short distance. Not too bad. When backlit with a flashlight, here are a few light leaks between the bottom of the bridge and the arched top, but that's easily remedied. The tort finger rest feels sturdy and well supported, and doesn't flex under normal playing pressure. The trapeze tailpiece is the standard open style, not like the one pictured here. The guitar comes fitted with Schaller style strap pins. That works fine for me but may come as a surprise to anyone not expecting it.
Overall, this guitar is ridiculously low priced for the quality you're getting. For an import budget guitar from Canada, the quality of the hardware and finishing, especially the fingerboard, nut, and frets, has the Asian imports beat by many miles.
